I have seen one from makro for £29.99 + vat it is a 256mb, how good is this.

Also is there a better priced one out there/

256MB will hold 60 to 70 ok quality songs. I have no idea about the quality of the unit as you haven't posted any specific info about it.
Also there is no indication of the age of the aforementioned daughter.....
  • daughter is 21, i will try and find a link to the mp3 player now, then will you tell me what you think please?

    What's your budget?
  • I can't get the link but here is the description

    TWF AUDIO 512MB MP3 PLAYER twf-f512

mp3/wma/wav compatatible. ID3 tag and lyrics support.
lcd display. usb 2.0 fast connection.

Now we are not very technical but does this mean good things/

and to copy from the computer do daughter just plug the mp3 player into the computer and download the songs that she has on to it.

i got the mb wrong it is 512 so how many songs will this hold.
This is from makro total price would be £35.10
  • Budget is as cheap as poss for the best piece of equipment i can buy. but it is her birthday soon and i don't mind buying her one.

But as most things she will use it then forget about it.

Technically, it sounds very good for the price. Bank on around 130 songs, around 10 CDs.
I know nothing about the sound quality, size and reliability or about battery life etc.
  • if she's 21 then give her my number.

On the left hand pane of that page, click the MpFOL7 1Gb, and see what you think, only £49.99 including next day postage and packing.

Holds loads of songs, the sound is great, and very simple to use, just download your CD's to the PC, plug in the MP3 player via USB on your PC, and drag and drop them, very simple to.

I bought this for my girlfriend, and she loves it.

Only gripe I had with it, is that the headphones are rubbish, so either use old ones, or buy a decent set with the money you save.

I bought one for my husband from dabs.com, it was 1mb and was about £54 I think..... pretty basic but does the job required.

I just pop in now and then.... :)

  • Id consider a 1gb as a minimum, loading/unloading music can be a hassle and I found on an early 512mb player I just lost interest. Ideally go for one of the 5gb players, eg the Creative Zen Micro.

iPods are basically style over content, they are well designed and have street cred - but they tend to be less functional, restrictive in use and more expensive than the 'unbranded' competators who have to include more and sell for less to stand a chance in sales against the agressive marketing of Apple.

But like any big company Apple know that people are easily brainwashed with simple techniques and know that they can tag the brainwashing/advertising budget onto the price of the iPod - its win win for them.

Do some research and get a superior less well known product. I was turned off iPods becuase they didnt have such basics as FM radio and changeable battery - can you believe it!?! Also they are much sort after by muggers as their blackmarket resale value is higher than less well known brands.

Seeing as this forum is for sensible money saving people who are long since savvy to the concept of tagging big advertising/design budget onto the end price tag you wont find much support for the iPod round here. Well at least you'd think not but brainwashing is powerful...
