We have a patch of damp in our living room, we have removed papper and the 'blown' plaster, back to bricks.
We have tried to replaster, but it shrank, cracked and did not stick to the brickwork.
So that came off, any tips.
It seems like something we should be able to do, and such defeatist to call in someone to do 2 square footage of plastering!
Thanks in advance

Have a look at the plastering bit in the General Building section of diyfixit.
The secret is in the mixing and doing it in layers IMHO.0 -
If the brickwork is exposed then using finishing plaster will not do the trick alone, it won't stick to brickwork easily. It's also only meant to be used in a very thin coat.
You will need a thicker base coat first e.g. browning or bonding coat which is rough and will attach to the brickwork. Once this is dry put a couple of thin skims of finishing plaster over this to complete the finish.
Plastering looks easy but it aint!0 -
PVA the wall 6-1 mix, before you start plastering. And put a plastic sheet below the work,to catch all the plaster that falls off your trowel and wall,so you can use it again.0

Many thanks to irnbru, VH and plumb1 for your tips.
Felt brave enough to tackle it agian this weekend, after priming with PVA solution and leaving for 24hrs to dry out, used onecoat plaster and made it on the sloppy side, it went on OK, and as we are covering with blown vinyl wallpaper the finish is OK.
Is there anything else I need to do before applying the wallpaper.
We have also found in other parts of the room the wallpaper has come unstuck! We did make the paste slightly runnier than the instructions as it is not that heavy paper, can I just reapply wallpaper paste or do I need to get 'border and overlap adhesive'.
Thanks againSmile it confuses people!0
