When VISA pay wave arrives hopefully this will throw the scam artists. It is currently being tested in London and hopefully everywhere soon.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

Shouldn't be a problem at close range and they will probably operate around 2GHz so they will be out of the way of normal RF interference.

This is one reason contact-less cards should be the next step, along with a pin number. With encrypted contact-less technology it would not be possible to compromise the card, only the pin number at worst case.

What are you basing that assumption on? The security is in the encryption technology used, and in the design of the card reader, not in the communication interface (contact/contactless).

The majority of C&P fraud isn't actually due to the Chip & PIN technology, but rather the fact that C&P cards still retain legacy interfaces which allow access to the unencrypted card details (i.e. magstripes and the number printed on the front...). Other attacks rely on the exploitation of security flaws in the card reader device.

There will always be some level of security risk as long as money is involved. Would you rather risk the small chance of card fraud or the much bigger risks associated with carrying large amounts of cash?

The card would be difficult to 'copy' if you don't physically have access to the card. With contact-less cards the wireless signal would have to be intercepted and compromised to clone the card.

Look, stop getting worried about plastic card fraud, if you are a victim you are covered, let the banks and thinkers worry about fool proofing systems, every advancement in financial technology is a step forward and is more secure than the last.
