dont waste your money on a car that you have to hand back, instead get some real style and buy something solid and reliable like this, not some piece of italian junk.

  • But look at it? It's a horrible looking car, boxy and an ugly interior and looks like it needs to be driven by a sliver haired 80 year old golf lover. Alfa's might have their niggles but they have something about them that sets them apart from all the Euro boxes. If you are a true car enthusiast you'd go for the Alfa and wouldn't even consider German.

No, a true car enthusiast would buy an an original BMW M3, or something like a Lotus Elise/VX220 or a kit car.

Yes, I know there's no absolute definition of a true car enthusiast.

I've had a quick scoot round the internet to read up on the car. If you were to buy one new (which you're not) I'd consider you a total mug. It's basically a front wheel drive coupe with an all wheel drive option. You can't classify that as a proper sports car (IMO!).

    2.2 is 185BHP and
Yes, the car gains pace but no more quickly than a reasonably powerful Ford Mondeo diesel. This Spider contains no venom.

The flagship V6 model boasts an extra 75bhp and four-wheel drive.

A 0-62mph time of 7sec is hardly super-league stuff nowadays — a 3 litre BMW Z4 takes less than 6sec for the same sprint — but it puts you in the top 5% of road users.

They do like the way it looks though.

However, there are so many great cars you could buy for a fraction of the list price of that.

I'd go for a nice z4 bmw 3.0 litre you can get one for £310 a month yes it will be 4 years old but still is fairly new and looks good.
£10000 over 3 years = £310 a month ok you might not get a 3.0 litre for that but for £12k you should and at the end of it you will have something still worth probably £4-5k in 3 years.

0-62 in 7 seconds! the new audi tt TDI does it in 6.5. and its cheaper to buy, even the roadster.

a true car enthusiast doesnt always have to spend all their time under the bonnet, sometimes its good to drive a car and know it will definatly get you there, not pot luck with an alfa.

Strangely enough we have both sorts in the family, Audi S4 (5 seats, huge boot, 0-60 5.5s and uber reliable) and a GTV (2.5 seats, no boot, 0-60 8.5s)

If we need to get somewhere quickly & effortlessly we take the Audi, if Mrs Vaio wants to feel like she is driving fast she takes the Alfa.

Having said that the GTV is drop dead gorgeous in the looks department.

Year 2000ish examples of both can be got for under £4k (under £2k for the Alfa) so maybe buy one of each and try them. The other MSE advantage of year 2000 cars is you’ll escape the £400+ road tax when it arrives.
