Summer hot water: immersion or oil-fired boiler?

Now that our heating's switched off for the Summer, I'm trying to work out whether it's cheaper to get hot water via the immersion or the oil-fired boiler. Can anyone tell me? Our household comprises two adults and a four-year-old, in case that's relevant.

Thanks,

There was a similar question a few days ago IIRC

Probably oil, unless you have E7 electirc and the water is heated at cheap rate overnight. (and in that instance you need to be working out if it actually pays to be on E7 versus normal tarrif as you don't use electric for heating or water for most of the year)

It is dependant to a certain extent on how efficient your boiler is. IIRC, your boiler would have to be under 60% efficient (or thereabouts) for the electric to be cheaper. How old is your boiler?

I'm sure one of the regulars who know the price per Kwh of oil will correct if that is wrong.

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
  • Thanks so much for that.
