Possible dumb q- how do I check if phone locked to a provider?

turn the phone on (with or without a sim, it doesnt matter), key in <**< (where < is left on the navigation pad and * is star). if all of the padlocks are open then its unlocked.0

ive only tested it on db2010 and db2020 phones, but i guess it still works on a db3150 phone0 -
Mine just comes up with "ESL", and its locked. Knew my phone was locked, we just removed the T-mobile software as that bugged me like mad.~*Cerenia*~
