My DS2 is 18 mths now and he's always had a combination of Tesco own purple packs and Pampers. Huggies seemed to leak. I tend to buy Pampers if find them on a good offer (sometimes have a third off price) and Tesco rest of the time.

When my DS1 was little, Huggies were absolutely the best fit for him until he got into pull ups and then Pampers all the rest of the way.

I'd buy a few packs of different brands and try what suits your little one (when they arrive!) the best. After reading the posts here I'm going to try Lidl's own brand when I next run low!

We use Pampers - tried lots of other brands including store own brands. Second the advice on not bulk buying in advance. You don't know what brand is best for your baby till the baby actually arrives and they go up a size faster than you think. Ignore the weight guides on the packets - move up a size when you start having leaks or they start getting tight around the legs.

Wow guys I have to give it to you, you are all stars. Thanks for all the advise.
I am going to wait till baby arrives and work with the trial and error system!

I use reusable nappies day time, disposable at night and disposable on holiday. I have found Lidl own make ok, Pampers (not Active fit, the other ones), Huggies, Tesco own and Boots own all pretty good for night time wee. I find they smell funny though, even when just a little wet, and put that down to the chemicals in them!
The resuable ones don't smell of wee when he is wearing them, when he does a solid one, then well tbh, I am not sure anything would mask the smell and we tend to change him asap! I use Tots Bots fluffles/cotton bots/bamboozles and also Motherease all in ones.
If you want to save money on disposables join the Pampers, Huggies, Boots Parenting (through Advantage Card), Morrisons Baby Club, Tesco Parenting and whatever other clubs you can- that way they will send you vouchers/freebies etc. If you want to save money on Reusables then consider second hand or see if your local council does an incentive scheme (many do). Also I wash using Eco Balls and that seems to keep absorbancy good and save money on washing powder!
    Good luck with the babies.

I found nature boy and girl excellent. Its more biodegradable than the others. I changed over to them as the other ones like pampers and huggies would leak. I also like the fact that is uses less chemicals.

If you think about it, wee smells a bit like, well wee! Disposables use all sorts of chemicals (you know those sachets of silica gel inside shoe boxes with the warnings "do not eat"? It is that sort of stuff!!) to help mask the odour amongst other things. I do get a bit of a whiff when changing my baby in her washables but i don't think it is very noticeable until the waterproof wrap is taken off.

OP- ah go on, try washables, they are so cute!!!
I'm not an expert but I don't think it is silica gel bit of research and it seems to be a Superabsorbent polymer or SAP , not having a go squashy just don't wan't anyone to get worried.
We have used different nappies at different times but I rate Lidl, Sainsburys and Asda.
Another thing to think about is baby wipes I used pampers sensitive until an occasion where I used one on myself:o OMG it burnt:eek: now obviously my chemical makeup down there iykwim is different to my dd but it scared the life out of me, we now use Sainsburys sensitive fragrance free baby wipes. When baby's new though I think they just need a clean with cotton wool & warm water. good luck.

Absolutely, thanks for correcting it was just what i was told...whatever it is is nasty stuff, one morning with my first child I came in to find her sat up in her cot squishing some kind of gel in her fingers, yes the disposable nappy had split and luckily she hadn't eaten it! Yuck!

Nosey moo that I am came across this interesting factsheet (via your link violetta ta!) about disposables- written by a manufacturer and very honest about why companies strive for a cotton like feel to their nappies, which seems to be to try and hide the fact that they are made of plastic rather than any actual functionality.

I have tried a few different ones..... strted with Terry nappies while DS was little, as these works out the cheapest and most enviro friendly at the time. Found those too bulky when he was trying to sit up, so switched to disposables (also more practical when out!). IMO Sainsburys own are rubbish (and I work for them!), Boots and Huggies are ok, we have no Lidl round here so can't comment, Pampers and Tesco own are great! I find these both as good as each other, and buy which ever have the best deal on at the time. DS's nursery also use Tesco own. We and the nursery are both using the Active Fit/whatever the Tesco version is. I do like Boots own brand fragrance free wipes tho, there's nearly always an offer on them.

Whichever brand you choose, make sure you sign up to as many online baby clubs etc as you can, as they always send out vouchers!
