Best phone to use with Vyke.com?

Hi all,
I have an account with Vyke.com, have had this for a year and used it alongside my orange pay as you go sim.

I have been in New-Zealand for 5 months, during which time I was unable to use the vyke service.
Now I am back, vyke have updated the program and my phone (Nokia 6100) is unable to cope with the updates :-(

Can anyone tell me which phone is the best phone to use alongside vyke?

Preferably a Nokia - it's what I am used to.
And I only really need vykelite as I only use it for texting.

Any help would be great.
Many thanks.

I used the full vyke program on my nokia n95, and it worked fine for texts and internet calls. I don't use it anymore as I just used it to use all the free calling credit. But this phone might be a bit high end if you're just after a cheap one to do your free texts on.

For the later version of Vyke, you seem to need a phone with Java version MIDP 2.0

Don't ask me what the letters mean, but you can check phones on

    Thanks for the info.
Is there anyone out there that might know if i can upgrade the software on my phone so instead of having MIDP 1.0 it would have MIDP 2.0? That would make life easier and cheaper :-)

Try the software updates section on the nokia website. You can download a program from there which updates the firmware on the phone and this may do what you want, but I'm not sure. Its worth a try, and if it doesn't it should improve other features of the phone. It's all explained on the nokia site at http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4226014 .

It seems that Vyke now only works with E or N series nokia phones... which rules out the majority of the phones on the market :-)

Vyke pro does, that's the version that makes use of VoIP features, but the other version (called lite or something like that I think) should still work with normal phones.

The old version of Lite has been replaced, and the new doesn't work on as many phones. They've refused to reinstate the old version - well, not quite refused, just counselled patience for nearly 3 months while they sort things out

I am now running vyke lite on an old nokia 7610 I have... seems to work so far, although, appears that when you send a text to someone, it no longer shows up as my number on their phone...!!

On Nokia phones, Vyke Pro should work on all Nokia S40 systems made in the past year or so. FOr the Mobile/Ip you need the S60 series.
