my first house was a repo and cost £17,000 in 1991 . The deposit should have been 5% = £850 .
However The kitchen needed a new roof so I got £500 knocked off the price ,but because the mortgage was in place the £500 was taken from the deposit reducing the deposit to £350 .

I bought my first house in 1998 and put down a 32% deposit. My second house was purchased in 2006 and I had a 10% deposit (it would have been more but I kept hold of my first house so the equity was still in it:rolleyes: )

Deposit for current house was 105k or 52.5% in 2004.

Equity came from sale of first house. Deposit for first house (1996) was about 10% or 4,500

About 15% but I've had to tick 10% on your poll as the closest option! ;) That was over 4 years ago and it's our first home :)

Good luck with raising the rest of the money, jt! :T

our 1st place was 10%deposit, then with our 2nd house we put in the equity minus 6k for a new bathroom. so i would say the 2nd house deposit was roughly, 20%. Hopefully in a few years when we sell this one, we will be looking at increasing this percentage!
Mortgage free 04/03/2025. Thanks to this site and lots of overpayments bit by bit.
Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞

We put 30% (30k) down for our first house in 2004.
When we move we should be mortgage free so we will sell this house and hopefully have 45% towards our next house.
  • 1st house in 1998 - 13% deposit ( was single so able to save)

2nd house in 2005 - 31% deposit ( mainly due to rise in house prices)

27.77% upfront on my one and only house.

I put all i could into having a lower mortgage at the time and just about found enough to cover the stamp duty and paid the rest of the solicitor fees over the following year, which they seemed happy enough to let me do.
