We had a 3% deposit in 2001 about £1620 (those were the days!!). Luckily we bought before the hike in prices and now have around 75% LTV.

I really feel for anyone trying to but their first house now, it must be really tough.

My first mortgage (May 2005) was 100%

In September 2007, I upgraded properties and took out a 95% mortgage

I've since been saving/paying off, and my next remortgage in June 2009 will be at under/equal to 90%.

    Getting there!

First house bought in 2001 was 100% mortgage.

We kept that house on as a rental property and released 34k of equity to put towards this one which we bought for 158k- I'm rubbish with percentages!

OH bought our 1st house (pre-Nala days lol) in 1986 with a 50% deposit. We married in 1988 and started on our MFW quest.

    We moved in 1998 - deposit - 33%

    This house in 2001 - deposit - 28%

    MF on 3rd Sept 2004.

I really feel for 1st time buyers now and wonder what decisions our children will make. I'm almost pretty sure they will be renting as oppsed to buying - don't have problem with that....they are 12 & 15 at the moment so no pressure ;)

I am building a house on some land given to me by my parents. I have a 95% morgage for the build but I don't think I will have to use it all as my builder (my cousin) has put in a slightly inflated quote for contingencies and when my house is built, my parents are moving in, selling theirs and then building a smaller one so I don't need to worry about furniture or anything until the sales as I can just use theirs!
