How big was your deposit?

I am intrigued as to how much deposit people can afford to put down on a house as we're currently saving for a deposit ourselves. So thought Id do my first poll... (I saw the interest rate thread and thought it was a useful thread!) :money:

20% We took the equity out of our other house to put down the deposit on current house, it would have 30%+ if we had sold the other house.

i put down a 93% deposit......really wanted to go the whole hog and buy outright, but i was bringing funds back from france and didn't know what the exchange rate was going to do. (glad i did it in november not now!!!!) also it meant i could have some furniture and have a small bit put by for emergencies.

:D2010 MFW Challenge No. 112 Mortgage paid in full 27/08/10 I was MF!!!:D
But now I'm not - (Joint) Mortgage £104704.
    New MFW target £5000 overpayments by 31/12/2105 £400/£5000 = 8%
    SAVINGS TARGET - £25000 by 31/12/2015 £13643/£25000 = 55%

2.5% on my first house with my ex in 1992. Even then we had to borrow the money (£1125!) from his Dad and pay it back. When we split in 2003 the prices had gone up so much, he bought me out for 60k.

I used 55k of that as a 30% deposit on a place a mile up the road, identical size etc.

    Times have definitely changed!

I got a 100% in 2003 as I didnt have a deposit and was on my own. Then remortgaged to a better deal a year or so later as the prices were going up.

If I had a choice I would save as much as physically able whilst still leaving yourself a bit for improvements.
