AOL usual nightmare!!

Hi, I've tried and tried to cancel my AOL broadband to no avail.Been with them for about 4 years (too many) so am out of contract restrictions.I can't get them to give me a mac code.I am moving house in 2 weeks and want to use another ISP at the new place.Can I just apply for a new ISP at the new address (totally different phone number)after I move in without a MAC code as if I was a complete newbie to Broadband?
Needless to say I have kept all copies of my cancellation emails to AOL and their vague and rather pigeon English replies as I intend to send them to the complaints dept,I have also cancelled the Direct Debit.
Any help and advice most gratefully received.

Thanks for your prompt reply espresso but I think you've misunderstood my question.If I'm moving to a different property,different exchange,different phone number, how would my intended new ISP know that I've previously had a broadband account with anyone if I don't tell them? In other words, a customer totally new to broadband.Hence, why would I need a MAC code anyway?

hi, not sure which phone number you are using to get through but I rang last night to get a mac code and received my code within 10 minutes. They did actually put me throught to technical team 2!!! straight away to try and keep me as well.
Hope this number helps : 0844 499 5555 think you need option 3.2013 the year to be more organised

first of all i was thinking to just forget it and move into new place and start again with a new isp
but then you got to think about the next person moving into the house, and whether theyre likely to have problems getting a new isp themselves on the line if you cant get it cancelled fast enough ....0 -
I had a complete nightmare with AOL. Similar situation. In the end I sent a letter threatening legal action. This was the name I was given to contact after endless futile and infuriating phone calls when I said I just wanted the complaints manager:

Good point, and it also applies to the new house that bellabooski is moving to - is it in the clear

Many thanks to all those who gave clear and constructive advice.It is very much appreciated. I have a new ISP for the new place,told them the AOL saga didn't seem too surprised. Oh...and I don't have to pay for installation!!

did you make sure that it was taken off the line you have now, cos if they find out where youve moved to, you wouldnt want it to come and bite you in the butt later lol0

Just cancel ya aol direct debit at the bank, move house then at ya new place sign up with ya new ISP. Just do NOT give aol ya new address or fone details in case they try hounding you. (all should go well) Oh and one up to YOU. gud on ya... Enjoy ya move :beer:0 -
As posted elsewhere I have just had enough of AOL, poor speeds just tipped me over the edge at the weekend. When I rang up & asked for a MAC, there was no sales talk, nothing. In fact the person who I spoke to seemed pretty resigned to the fact I was leaving. I guess AOL are losing plenty of customers.
In fact I was bit disappointed. In all the years of negotiating with AOL, I expected a bit of a chase! None, quite happy for me to go & I'm happy to leave:j0
