bottomless Pot size for tomato growbag

Kantakarus Mare I put three bottomless pots for toms into a grow bag and sunk some empty 3" pots into the growbag between the toms ( 2 little pots per bag I think) and watered into the 3" pots so it went directly to the bottom roots and fed from above.
That sounds like the way for me to go. So my next dilemma is when I actually put them into the grow bags?
Ive read somewhere you should wait till plant is flowering but elsewhere, when plant is a decent size?
