not sure it's exactly what you want but nokia offer a phone comparrison service on their site - you'll need to know the model numbers (or what the phones looked like) but it might be a good place to start?

  • thanks, but already looked on the nokia site, and can see all the different types of phones but it doesn't say for example a newer version of the 7250i is 7260 if you get what I mean like the 3310 went to 3330 I'm just trying to find out what the updated version of the phones are, but thanks anyway ;)

Go to gsmarena.com there is a phone finder section, what to do is get the spec of the nokia you are looking to replace ie what functions it has bluetooth/infra red and input that choosing the nokia brand and see what comes up and find the newest and closest. I tried the 7250i choosing radio and i.r and it brought loads but the closest 7 was the 7270 (clam)

  • thanks for that, just waht I needed ;)

not sure there is an easy way to do that across the range (if there is a general rule for it at all) but i guess in most cases the model indicator will remain the same ie: for the 3310 -> 3330 it's the 3### with the remaining numbers usually ascending to indicate newer models. However, different 'Series' types can cross the numbering boundaries so you can have the Series 60 (smart phones) being 32##, 36##, 66##, 76## and of course the new 'N' range also gets a sniff there too :)

Even the magazines can't quite agree / make sense of it

"Bonus Info: Secret of Nokia Model Numbers While we were talking phones with Nokia, we asked them about their four-digit model numbers that often confuse consumers—and editors—alike.

The official word: Nowadays, only the first digit means anything. The other three just grow as new models are added. 1xxx and 2xxx phones are basic models. 3xxx are "expressions." 5xxx are "active." 6xxx are "classic," 7xxx are fashion phones, 8xxx are "premium" and 9xxx are Communicators. There are no 4xxx models because the number 4 is considered unlucky in parts of Asia."

I did get some joy doing google searches for:

    'Nokia [model number] replaced by'

    so that might help ;)
