Hi all,

I connected a laptop to a orange world using nokia PC suite and a PAYG sim taking advantage of the £1 a day offer .

It worked great for 2 weeks but now its not connecting , it gives error message to check connection settings but they are the same as before .

Have orange "pulled the plug"? if not any suggestions please?

Thanks

turn your handset off, remove battery, retry. (usually settings get a little muddled and a restart sorts)

£1 OW browsing can be used for modem use.

If still no joy, dial 156 from a PAYM Orange mobile, or 450 & ask for data support (you will be transferred to 156, who transfer you to their level two dept. unless it's changed recently)

Make sure you have some credit on your phone. Even though you paid £1 for the bundle, you often require around 60-70p so your sim registers with the network that you can make a connection.

    hi vertical fool.

    Orange mobile broadband:
    1) do you mean broadband at home, in conjunction with your Orange mobile phone (so, broadband is normal home broadband, but you get a discount as you also have a mobile phone contract)

    or:

    2) HSDPA (3G+) - broadband speeds via a USB dongle.

    or:

    3) internet from your handset.

    1) home broadband - heard there were a few problems initilally, but that they are getting sorted. Usually it works, but can sometimes be a lil' frustrating when there is an issue/problem.

    2) don't know much about this. It works off the orange network and uses HSDPA service (3G+) so you get speeds of upto 1.8mbps. If you're not in an area where there is HSDPA service (sorry, dunno how you can check unless you call customer services/sales, or maybe visit orange.co.uk ? ) then it will operate off the 3G network initially (speeds upto 384kbps) then off GPRS network (speeds upto theoretical 64kbps) if no 3G+, or 3G service.
This is general speed/service info as provided by all networks. As for the service, i hear it's a plug-in USB stick and that's it. no cabl;es, no cd - all install automatically from the usb-dongle. (for prices/terms etc, best to check orange website, but i think it's £15 and a 24mth contract)

    3) This works via your handset and depends on your handset type, sim card type, network coverage. It's pretty good from what i hear - best to refer to website for tariffs.

I think you mean option 2) but thought i'd write them all just in case!

    Hi.

I meant the "mobile broadband" which is how it's being advertised although searching for information on here highlights the different names people are calling it both in the mobiles and the internet threads and with no moderator moving any.

Anyway there seems plenty of Three users but no Orange users of the "mobile broadband".

Thanks for the reply, your the only response to a few of my threads/posts regarding the Orange "mobile broadband".

well, i know mostly about Orange, so i post about them when i get a chance. glad you found some use from my reply.

3 offered the service long before others (i think, or at least they promoted it first).

worth bumping a post if you don't get an answer - usually if it's not on page 1 or 2 of the forum, it won't be seen.

Glad your sorted with your access bestyman.

I've just received my modem today. I was originally told it was £5 a month as a retention offer for 18 months. Now I think I'm on a 24 month contract, 18 months free and then 6 months at £15 a month.

I've just tried to register the sim and tonight I'll try it when I get home. I'll report back in due course when I've had a play with it.

    Regards

    Hi Proplus.

I went for the Orange offer. It was very impressive last night but much less so this morning. I'll try a USB extension before I critise the daytime performance but its certainly less impressive and the frustration I expected.

I got the deal by just enquiring on the off chance. It was my intention to go with Three because with Quidco and a good offer you could get the 1100 minutes/texts with a 6500 slider amongst other phones, seperate modem with 3GB, BT headset free for around £22 a month for 18 months when quidco is included.

I was going to take this but I phoned orange about cancelling my contract to go with Three. My 12 months ended on May 20th they could offer me retention deals of either something like 225 minute package for £20 ish or mobile broadband 3Gb for £5 a month as a retention offer. I was hoping they might be able to offer a dual package similar to three but the mobile broadband is what I went for.

I've just this afternoon picked up a carphone warehouse catalogue and they were advertising an Orange mobile broadband offer of 18 months for £15 with 3gb with a free laptop. I surely must have this seriously wrong as that wouldn't pay for the laptop. The free laptop may entice alot of people to take up the offer and hence overuse the service leading to poor connection/download speeds etc.

    Regards
