I know that the nappy called NatureBoy and Girl is kind to the environment; but is it also kind to you babies skin. Does it expose your baby to less or very little chemicals.


Waitrose have a special offer on where you can get two packs with a saving of £2.50 so I am trying them out to see if there are any good. If they are giving my son less chemicals compared to the normal Huggies & Pamers then I will go off and purchase a whole load while the offer is still on.

Hiya,

Don't know the exact details, but a friend of mine is v. environment friendly and Natureboy is the only disposable she'll use as it had the lowest amount of chemicals in when she looked into it all. I came across a website the other day which might be useful www.babygroe.co.uk

I've just started using cloth nappies... my son is a year and i wish i'd tried them before they are soooooo easy less chemicals and less landfill...i am becoming an eco warrior...lololololol

We mainly used (will use) cloth but I did try a pack of Nature Boy/Girl about a year ago when my daughter was a year old and didn't get on with them at all, it seemed like half of them leaked everywhere!
Another environmentally friendly brand which I haven't tried but often heard recommended is Moltex Oko.

A couple of packs of terries and some waterproof pants will cost about £30 and will last longer and expose him to no chemicals at all. (If you decided to do that, if you pm me with your address I can send you a nappy nippa that avoids the whole nappy pin thing!)

A week ago for the first time my pampers nappy burst open and all the jell from inside was all over my son's stomach. I was horrified and thought what chemicals is he being exposed to. I was showered straight away and this made me think that I must find something safer for him.

I have just tried the nature boy and girl (for 1 day so far) and I found it leaked with the poo but he did do a really big poo. Also at the moment I am finding all brands are leaking with his poo in the morning so it make no difference.

I am a bit scared to go down the cloth nappy but I know that they are the most green and chemical less option. What are they like to keeping in the poo? Do you need to use buckets to pre-soak? I've heard that you just need to put them in the washmachine with a prewash at 60%.

Gingham .. with ordinarey terries do you have to learn how to fold them? Where you learn how to fold them? £30 sounds like a good price to try them out to see if they are any good...

What about those fancy prefolded velcro ones? I saw a prefolded with adjustable poppers so that one size fits all in Waitrose are they any good? Do you need to buy liners.. I heard that some people make their own with fleece. Where can you get an idiots starter's guide aims at the scared to get started with cloth nappies.

Can you buy just one cloth nappy and try it out or do you have to buy a whole nappy system.

Would you advice getting some from eBay? Say brand new ones on Ebay? What about second hand ones.. is that hygenic?

You can see from this post that I have not got a clue about cloths nappies and it you can help I would be very grateful.

I am also getting more of am eco warrier. I read last month a book by the friends of the earth and it has made me look at things in a really different way. I have always been recycling for many many years but I was not aware of all the chemicals that we are surrounding ourselves with, about the cost to the world on buying food that is flown into the country...etc I have only just started to notice that you have on the lable where the food come from... that is how ignorant I am!! I am trying to go organic as much as I can afford and finding out about cleaning the oldStyle way or use ECover products.

A friend has found a shop that sells organic and chemical free makeup which is fantastic!!

Happysad, if you're thinking about real nappies there's a long-running thread somewhere on here, but I know people who've had really good impartial advice from The Nappy Lady and The Real Nappy Network. Depending on where you live you might have a contact in your area who'll have samples of the different types of nappy and will be able to talk you through the pros & cons to find what's right for you. I just met our rep recently and was really annoyed not to have found her earlier!

Just found this by googling. And look at the threads on washables. They're a breeze. I flush the poo down the loo and stick them in a bucket. (No soak.) Then I stick them in the wash with towels and bedding on 60 degrees with some nappy soak and vinegar and bob's your uncle. Doddle.

As for folding, the lollipop lady will show you how. Dead easy. (Unless your son is a giant like mine and even the terries are too small...)

I was really scared at trying them out as my son is a year and i've only just started but it is SOOOO easy i wish i'd have known how easy it was i'd have done it with my first one.
I was given some re-useables but https://www.kittykins.co.uk do a trial pack for £30 which has several diff types of nappies & wraps included, plus your local council might do an incentive scheme where they give you some money normally £25 for going cloth!!!
I use a mix of fleece liners which i bought from ebay and find them better than the dispsable liners which i do also use.

The ONLY disposable nappy that doesn't contain any gel or chemicals is Tushies. I buy mine from the following website (with free p&p):

I use them when we stay overnight at relatives or on holiday, the rest of the time I use Terry Squares/Junior Joy Wraps (daytime - at home), Popolini Bravo Nappies/Dippy Delights Wraps (daytime - out and about - I call them my 'showing off nappies' ) and Tots Bots Nappies/Nature Babies Wraps (at night)
