Iphone on PAYG
Hi
Apologies first of all, because I know most of my questions have already been answered in other threads. I have searched and read a lot, but most is lost on me as I’m not ‘with it’ on mobile phones
I’ll really appreciate it if someone could advise me on the following in layman’s terms…
I’m thinking of buying an unlocked IPhone on ebay to use with a Pay As You Go sim (I understand all warrenty/guarantee issues).
I use a virgin sim and pay on average £10 by direct debit monthly. From research so far I know it would work, but I don’t understand what features I would lose, especially regarding the internet and getting access to maps. Also, how would usage differ if I was travelling in Europe? Would it still work, and could I access the net (at home or abroad)? And finally…if my usage remained the same, would my bills too?
Thanks for reading

You might be able to access the internet, but it would be slow (Virgin only has GPRS, not EDGE, which is only capable of approximately dial-up modem speeds) and expensive (I don't think Virgin does any bundles and their standard rate is 0.5p per kb, which is more than £5 a megabyte - and since the iPhone is the "full internet" you could find a single page costs several quid).
The same would apply abroad, but it would probably be even more expensive.0 -
I have been using Orange Payg unlimited use at £1 per day, which is pretty good for BBC news etc and hotmail. you would be able to get google maps to work I would have thought.
if you are at home you can connect it to your own wifi network if you have it and the speeds obviously would be great.0 -
IMO, i'd wait a few weeks, the 3g iphone is rumoured to be coming out at the begininning of june, and there will be an influx of cheap first gen iphones on ebay to buy..
16gb unlocked anyone?
