3yr old with cradle cap?
Comments

Cradle cap is actually just another form of dermatitis, which can then spread to the rest of the body-aged 3,if his skin elsewhere is ok though this is unlikely. The thing is with cradle cap,you have to get down to moisturise the healthy layer of skin under the crusts-so it's a matter of removing them and mpisturising underneath with oil, aqueous cream,ointment-whatever your gp advises of any unperfumed product you have in the house (lanloin-free is safest.)
Sufferers are more likely to develop excema in later years,as all 3 of mine did!Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0 -
Hello
Just finished bathing DS. Whilst brushing his hair I noticed a patch on his head that is covered in yellow crusty scabs. I used the comb to gently 'scratch' this and he's covered in flakes now! This looks like cradle cap to me - like what they get when they are babies. But can they still get this when they are older? I thought cradle cap only existed in babies!
My eldest still had cradle cap at the age of 3 or 4 too!So long as it's not causing them any irritation, it can just be left alone.
My youngest (nearly 1) still has quite a lot on his scalp but it's not really visible now his hair is getting a bit thicker!0 -

Buy a thing called soap spirit they sell it in chemists and is really cheap. I tried it on my daughter and it works a treat.Roll on spring, I hate the cold weather:(

Slather baby oil all over the head and comb the scabs off
Worked with my girl and it never came back:cool:0 -
Thanks everyone, just read this with interest as I noticed something similar on DD (age 3) the other day & assumed we just had not been wasing the shampoo out properly.

DD2 who is 3 had cradle cap until a few months ago, then the little darling came home with nits. So I got out the conditioner and nit comb and it seemed to come away. But when I was washing her hair earlier I noticed a dry patch on her scalp again, so I might try some olive oil on it.Carpe Diem

Sounds like Seborrheic dermatitis. Nizarol Shampoo will clear it up although it is a life long condition, more common in boys then girls and gets worse later in life0

My 2 girls both still have cradle cap at 3 years and almost 5 years, with both of them it started at around 3 months and has come and gone a few times. I've tried lots of things, I didn't find oils to work very well with them. I have been using ordinary anti-dandruff shampoo for the past 6 months and that seems to have worked.DFW no.630!

My 5 year old son still has cradle cap. I just leave it alone but after reading through all these replies I'm wondering whether I should do something about it?0
