3yr old with cradle cap?

Hello
Just finished bathing DS. Whilst brushing his hair I noticed a patch on his head that is covered in yellow crusty scabs. I used the comb to gently 'scratch' this and he's covered in flakes now! This looks like cradle cap to me - like what they get when they are babies. But can they still get this when they are older? I thought cradle cap only existed in babies!

I have an 11 1/2 year old who still has cradle cap, we have tried every lotion and potion going! The best thing I have found is massaging baby oil into his scalp and leaving it on for about half an hour (making sure he doesn't lean his head onto any furniture) then wash it off, it normally takes 2 or 3 lots of shampoo to get the greasiness out. The baby oil seems to keep it at bay a little longer so I only have to do it about once a month.

My 13 year old has it, we have tried all sorts and finally TGel works very well, it doesn't help that he has thick hair and hates getting his hair cut,
He had cradle cap as a baby for a few weeks and that was it, when he was a little older he used to have his hair shaved and never had the problem, but now he prefers not to have it shaved the problem has started been like it for about 2 yearsLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
My son gets it still and he is 5, although generally only in the heat is when his flares back up now. I shave his head to help keep him cool and find that this eases itRaising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0

hi you could try the old fav of coconut oil massage in leave then shampoo out the main reason i like this is because you can buy a VERY BIG tub of 'virgin' coconut oil which is the best it will last for years it's chemical free and you can use it as a hair /skin conditioner and as part of a deodorant mix or skin scrub mix fab some even eat it for health benefit's but i have to say i've not tried it so can't recommend it
wins to date..................none!! nadda... zilch... nothing not a blinking thing AT ALL .. Oh well... may be one day .:o

DS1 had cradle cap at 5, and he started losing small clumps of it hair because of it, and the Doctor prescribed Nizoral - it worked a treat. That's Numberwang!0

We used almond oil on our dd when she had it just rub a little bit in a few times a day soon cleared it up. Cradlecap looks nasty though doesn't it. Don't think it's that uncommon in older kid's but no harm in asking your pharmacist or seeing the dr to get it checked.Booo!!!0

See the GP or pharmacist just to make sure it is cradle cap and whether there is anything you can get on prescription (free) to help sort it out.Signature removed for peace of mind0

I second going to the GP, my mum thought I was still getting cradle cap as a young child and it turned out to be psoriasis, easily treatable with something on prescription (and also some of the remedies mentioned above).0

My DD got cradle cap until she was 4 or 5 and my DS still has a bit at 3.0
