They post you a password that you need before logging on to view the account. This only takes a couple of days after opening an account. You don't have to wait for this to transfer money into the account though, as you are provided with the account number and sort code before the password is sent out, so there's no delay in being able to transfer money into the account.

You had me worried there with that title! I've deposited £65,000 into two accounts now and so far everything has been easy.

My account setup was simple. I think it was turned around in less than 2 weeks. The website isn't a work of genius, but I'm just leaving some spare cash in there so it doesn't bother me much.

I got the impression from the site that everything was done online?

LIke 10_66 says thy do require verification via snail mail and send outimportant docs to your home address which I think is a good thing. I remember when I signed up with Egg for an ISA I didn't get a single document through the post and whilst I know/knew Egg were fairly reputable, it still didn't seem right having deposited £3k without having a single thing come through the post to even verify my account was opened.

Don't get me wrong, I'm work in a paperless world whenever I can and prefer it most of the time, but for some things it's still nice to get a 'hard copy'. :)

No, not unless they started in the last few weeks which I doubt very much, I don't think they have the cash to spare for cashback - their 'cashback' is implicit in the high rates that they offer customers I would imagine.

On the subject though, I only just found out about the cashback comparison tool on this site after having been a regular here for 6 months or more now. The link is:

When you say 'spare cash' is it over £1k? You don't get paid interest on a balance of less than £1k, I guess you know that already though, worth mentioning though just in case :)
  • Easy to use, was set up and running in less than a week, did a trial transfer of money to check all was ok - (also speedily done)

I had to contact Kaupthing by phone - no silly press this number for such a thing... The phone was answered in about 2 rings!!! was very impressed...

Have transferred my spare cash to recieve the best interest.... Well done Kaupthing!!!
