I'm thinking of opening an account, does anyone have any horror stories that would put me off, or conversely good experiences with them

I opened an account with them with no problems, I have sent more funds to them from my nominated account again with no problems

I also had no problems with them - touch wood!!The account was opened quite easily and so far the customer service has been good

I too have only good feedback about them. Account opened quickly and fully operational within a couple of days, electronic ID verification.

Found them much better than some of the more well known banks.

I was thinking of opening an account with them but I have a (possibly unusual) question:

Do they have an online secure message facility? like sending a secure email rather than havin to phone them should you need to contact them.

Yes, they have secure messaging facilities

Some text from their site (hope they don't mind!):

"This is an encrypted message facility to enable you to communicate with Kaupthing Edge Customer Services. We will endeavour to respond via secure messaging within 24 hours. To check on the status of your correspondence, please use the option 'View Secure Messages'."

p.s. I like the account - no complaints from me.

Well... they sent out my activation code in an unsealed envelope, does that count as a horror story?

On the one hand it's not too bad in as much as noone can do anything with just the activation code - it has to be changed after it's first used as well so even if someone somehow managed to find out which account it was related to, it'd still be useless info.

On the other hand though it doesn't inspire a huge amount of confidence in their envelope lickers...

I've been fairly happy with KE though to be fair, the one time I had to contact customer support they seemed on the ball and 'took ownership' of the problem until it was fixed (instead of being passed from pillar to post getting it sorted).

Website isn't the prettiest or smoothest to use, no downloadable statements, cranky withdrawal system that sometimes seems to only let you set up a withdrawal for 2 business days after the current day on a weekend... generally though it's not completely unusable, a definite 3rd place though from Lloyds (1st) and A&L (2nd) for the accounts I use.
