JSA help.....

hiya, its my first post so sorry if someone has already asked this question.

i applied for job seekers allowence online, then went to the job centre last week to go through my claim, and get the signing on books they give you etc.

then i first signed on, on monday (the 14th may) and i am just wondering when i should recieve my first payment as i am really struggling now. also, the letter i recieved said they will pay me from the 24th april. so from tomorrow they should owe me (i know they don't owe me it, but couldnt think of a better word!) 3 weeks worth of job seekers allowence.

will this all come in one payment? (i'm hoping so as i said before i am really struggling now) so just wondering really if anyone knows when you should recieve your payments.

any help would be appreciated, thank you.

its usually every 2 weeks, on the wednesday after signing on- you should get a letter shortlyto confiirm dates and amounts.
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

  • Hi, sorry I havn't checked this forum for a bit. I got paid on the 15th May, thanks for asking!

I got £109.60 which is strange, cos my letter said I would get £47.95 a week! So don't know how they worked that one out!

As they said I would get paid from the 24th April, that payment sort of takes me up to the 8th of May (well just over cos it was a strange amount!) But I don't have to go in to sign on until the 6th of June now cos of the bank holiday.

So this week do you think I will get another 2 weeks payment?
Do you get paid weekly or every 2 weeks?

    Thanks again! :o
  • I signed on the 12th May Monday and I have not received a penny yet. When should I get mine as the next time I sign on is the 9th June.

You get paid every 2 weeks, 3 days after you sign on.

Give your local Job centre a call they can tell you when you should have been paid.

  • I gave them a call and they said they has sent me a form to my address thursday (which has not arrived) and so they are sending me another, so I have to complete it and go into jobcentre with it and get them to fax it through.

I thought I had given them all the details at my sign on date, they took copies of everything etc.

Why didn't they just ask me to come in??
Its walking distance from my house.

Since it's all Centralized the local offices are no more than drop off / pickup points for all the paperwork! I had to call then on a freefone number to start the sign on process, 30 mins giving all my details then having an interview in my local office and giving the same details all over again!!!

You should ask to pick up the form at your local office. since that's probably where it's getting posted from.

They like to do that - their way of thinking is that if they get you to visit them then you can also spend time looking for jobs whilst you are there. Mine does it too and I live 2 mins walk away.
