I have been prescribed Acuvue Advanced by the optician, as a 2 week lens, I only need a lens in 1 eye.

I can either pay the £25 contact lens appointment, plus then buy the lenses at £27 per box of 6 plus buying solution

Or I can sign up to the direct debit at £8 per month, which includes £1.50 after care package (lens appointment, discount on lenses and 2 free lenses per yr) so I guess £6.50 for 2 contact lenses. I would still need to get solution.

1.5 * 12 = £18 so the aftercare cost would be cheaper than the contact lens appointment

I don't usually like signing up to direct debit, but it seems like that may be the best option, unless I can get the lenses significantly cheaper elsewhere?

The optician said I would be best getting the solution myself as the dd option includes solution for 2 eyes so I would have too much. What are the best options if I want to shop around for solution?

So many questions.... just trying to work out the best deal. Thanks

i put my purevision lenses in the replenish solution last night & i've had hardly any discomfort in my left eye today. hopefully not a fluke & the change of solution has made a real difference.
  • I currently use Specsavers Lacrima lenses and have seen on the internet that these are Sauflon Clariti monthly lenses. However one website told me that Sauflon have an exclusive deal with Specsavers so that they only supply their Clariti lenses to Specsavers and don't sell them anywhere else, does anyone know if this is true? I currently spend £13 a month on these but as I'm a student if I could get them cheaper it would be a bonus!
  • Hiya all,

    Thanks in advance x

Saulfon Clariti are widely available through high street opticians including independent optometrists, regional chains such as Conlons in the north west (sold as Mirage Synergy), Leightons in the South, and national chains too. Great lenses in either monthly or daily disposable including for astigmatism.

They start at around £10 and go up to around £40 per month - go for the best you can afford for the best comfort and health of your eyes.

i think you'd need to see your optician (opthalmalogist, but i can't spell it!) before any change in lenses. i don't use daily lenses but mine are extended wear & i use them on a daily basis, i'm using purevision toric (so more expensive than standard), lenses only are £68 for 6 months. then you've got solution to buy, seems cheapest at costco (£24 for 4 x 300ml replenish, should last 6 months). don't forget to factor in care/check-ups etc too.

    Hi All,

    Just looking for some advice...

I have a current up to date glasses prescription and am looking to go back to contacts, I used to wear them a couple of years ago.

I plan to go to Specsavers as I've always had a good experience there (compared to D&A).

When I did wear contacts I was prescribedPureVision Compatibles Toric lenses and got on well with them.

    So..

    i) How much do these lenses currently cost via SpecSavers DD Lensmail scheme? (not there online, the instore price)
ii) I realise the PureVisions are "older" technology, so is there something out there which is "better" at a similar price?

My glasses prescription is fairly low:

    Sphere: R:+0.75 L:+0.25
    Cyl: R:-1.50 L:-1.00
    Axis: R:5 L:10

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks,

    Hi All,

Looking for some advice. I currently wear glasses, all the time, am short sighted and realised the other day I need to go get a sight test (Its been at least 8 years!)

So...I plan to go to Tesco to get their free test however I'm then interested in getting some contact lenses.
Just wondering what the best way of going about it would be? Get my prescription and order online? or through an optician?
I ideally need to get them as cheap as possible, first time I have ever looked into getting them and must say its a bit of a minefield!
So..any advice/prices I can expect to pay would be great :D

oh also I have a costco card, but not sure how expensive they are :)

    Thanks in advance!!!
