Hot water problem with Valliant boiler

Hi,
I have a Valliant Ecomax 824 Combi boiler. After I had some work done on my bathroom (may be coincidental but) I found that the hot water flow rate had increased and now the water does not get anywhere near as hot as it did. I have tried reducing the pressure of the water entering the boiler but even at the lowest pressure before the boiler cuts out it has made little difference. I'm not having any other problems with the boiler, diverter valve OK etc.
If I turn the hot tap so that the flow rate is slower then the water does get hotter, but I cannot get the water hot enough in my new thermostatic shower :-(
Had the boiler looked at and was told that the heat exchange may need replacing, but this would not account for an increase in the flow rate.
Does anyone know if there is a valve within the boiler that may be stuck open or anything that regulates the water flow that could have broken.

Thanks in advance.
