Cashbacks = free mobile phone???

Hi all,

I need a new mobile to replace a dead one, use PAYG as useage is V. low and want to keep existing number and credit I have on the number.

It seems that buymobilephones.net are offering a motorola V220 on O2 for £25.99 / Month with 12 months free line rental, it looks like via cashback of 3 installments.

Does this seem like a good way of getting an, almost free, handset. Can anyone see any pitfalls apart from having to pay line rental for 3 months before getting cashback? I will have to unlock phone for T-Mobile PAYG but this should be okshouldn't it?

Any thoughts appreciated.
Titch :)

  • I've just signed up for one of these for my wife from mobileshop UK. THe main pitfall is tha you may forget to claim the cashback during the designated period. As long as you are organised you should be OK. The same goes for the end of 12 month cancellation. If you forget to give 30 days notification to cancel after 11 months you will have to pay full price for the next month (i.e. month 13).

    As the contract includes 200 x-network minutes a month, why do you want to use your T-mobile sim? You can port your number and surely any lost credit would be outweighed by your monthly allowance.

    Smeagol,

    If you are sure you will remember to send your bills off to claim tha cashback the I would deffinately recommend one of these deals. I have the Nokia 7600 on "3" for £2.99 a month and it is brilliant. Phone ain't great but it was free and for £2.99 a month I get 500 anytime, any network minutes and 100 texts - how good is that.

    I rarely go over my £30 a month line rental and obviously claim most of that back so it only ends up costing me £2.99 a month and when i'm done for the 12 months i'll sell the phone for as much as I can, if I get £40 for it then that will cancel out the £2.99 a month too!!!

    One other thing to be careful of, make sure you get it from a reputable company because the cashback is from the retailer not the network. If its a dodgy company then they might try and not give you the cash back, or might go bust then you are stuck paying full price.

    Try to stick to carphonewarehouse or e2save (carphonewarehouse online).

    Quick extra point smeagol, if you go for the deal with mobileshopUK and sign up to quidco first you get an extra £25 cash back. So effectively you earn £25 for taking the phone for 12 months!!
