Income tax from ebay selling

Hello fellow moneysavers!

This is a question regarding selling things on ebay. I'm 17 and currently use my dads ebay account to sell things. He sometimes uses it to sell rubbish things hes found in the attic, things not worth much and that are old / used. I use it sometimes to sell things I've bought to try and make some money, and it has gone well - but I've had to stop for the moment.

My dads worried that if I sell things on ebay ten he'll be fined for not declaring it on his tax return. Its a good point, which I had tried to look into but couldnt find an answer.

Is it ocay for me to sell things or him to 'sell things for me' (since i'm under 18) on his ebay account, if I am the only person beneffiting from the sale. Or as it is his ebay account, is there a chance of being investigated and fined?

Thanks - any help would be great

this should probably go on the ebay board, but the first issue will be that you are not allowed to sell on ebay if you are under 18 and that you are pretending to be your dad...... it doesn't sound like an ideal situation - how long is it until you are 18? then at least you won't be causing any potential problems for your dad.

Sorry I didnt see the ebay board, I'm not a forum regular, I normally just look at saving tips on the main site.

Its a while until I'm 18, 9 months - I know its not an ideal situation that I'm using the account. I've been using ebay for years, I was the main user until last year when my dad discovered the glories of ebay!

At the moment the only solution is to stop selling things, or only making small amounts from single "unwanted gifts" every once in a while.

I believe if you're buying to sell you're classed as a business seller and other laws apply....? But yes, like Melancholly said, the eBay board is the best place to ask.
