Water Meter Installation

in Water bills
Hi Everyone! I had my Southern Water account in April and nearly choked on my breakfast. The bill was £261 for waste water - a rise of just over £30 for the year. My fresh water is supplied by Portsmouth Water at a cost of £90 per year so combined cost fort he utility of £350.
Now I am a single guy living in a 2 bedroom flat. I have one bath per day, use the washing machine 3 times a week and also the dishwasher 3 times a week. I work mornings. I have a dual flush toilet and use minimal water for cooking but make about 3 pots of tea at home per day.
I complained about the waste water charge to the company and was advised to go on a water meter as they thought I would save.
I would like to hear from anyone who is in a similar situation and has found that having a meter has saved them money. Apparently it is a trial and I can have it removed within one month of the second bill.
I have thought of cunnin plans to further cut the costs of water. Maybe washing a load at my mums! Also at work we have a lovely new building and there are spotlessly clean private showers for the workers that no one is using at the moment. So I thought I could go into work earlier than normal and use their showers and thus not only save on the water but the heating bill as well. I have a combi boiler that only comes on when water is heated.
Thanks for any help

Average UK adult uses about 60 cubic meters of water per year - so stick that in and take into account the cost to supply and the cost to remove that much water and and standing charges plus any surface water drainage charges.
MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
