Door-to-door sales… can we ask them to be more responsible?

Tbh, we shouldn't just be asking door-to-door sales to be more responsible, we should be requiring them to be responsible in law, with penalties including complete and total asset stripping of the company hierarchy, from the CEO level right down to team leaders.
Basically, set the fines for a single breach so high that every management role holder must sell everything they own in order to pay them.0 -
think its awfull to be told to 'f- off' without actually saying anything but 'Hi'.
No, it is not. You had no business being there. Intrusive, unecessary, unacceptable, should be illegal.0 -
Hi all,
Just to add to the subject, For those of you who did not know!!
The post i am replying to is the post on the Lady with the "TalkTalk" Issue
I would first like to appologise on behalf of whatever the "TalkTalk" Rep was ment to have done.
I just want to add:
I am not convinced the Rep Was from "TalkTalk" the reason I say this is because he would know that "TalkTalk" Reps are restricted on Sign up age.
They can't sign people above the age of 75, and they cant sign people younger then 18.
All "TalkTalk" Reps know this, This is not just a rule, The system they use would not let them do it, so with this said In my mind There is no possible reason for an actual TalkTalk rep to even Speek to this person.0 -
I'm new, but I wanted to share my ordeal. I can't bear people coming to my door. I live in an area where we get a lot of this sort of thing. I also get at least 2 leaflets through the door per day (which go straight into recycling, these people are wasting a hell of a lot of paper).
The other day I had a woman from TalkTalk (apparently). She started off by commenting on the t-shirt I was wearing, starting off a conversation so it was difficult to say no thanks not interested. Then she said she was here to pick up a form that should have been dropped off before. I didn't have a form and she said it was strange, could she just use our phone to check that I was eligible for free calls and broadband. This sounded good to me, anything to save money so decided to let her in and discuss it. She seemed nice, and in another life we may have even been friends.
However, the next thing I knew she had taken my details down, she had my address presumably because someone further along the street had given her our postcode, she had my phone number from the call she had made and was asking for my bank account number. In all this time I didn't get the chance to say no, she kept chatting away all the time indirectly asking me for my details (e.g. starting a conversation from photos she had seen of my wedding and asking what my surname was now etc) which she'd been writing on her form even though I hadn't said I was interested, and I also didn't really know she was filling in a form and what it was for. All I knew was that she was occasionally writing stuff down. At the time I was too tired and hungry to notice what was going on, she'd caught me just back from work.
I told her there was absolutely no way I would be giving her my bank details, she tried every trick in the book, "your account number is on your cheques so you give this information away every time you use a cheque" etc. Eventually she gave up.
However, she still has my personal details. I had a call from TalkTalk the day after saying I had indicated an interest in thier service. I honestly think I will never hear the end of it now.
But the thing is, what if she wasn't from TalkTalk?? Now that I think about it, although she had an ID badge she kept it out of sight. She only had one leaflet which she said she could not leave with me as it was her last. She took the form with her with all my detials, she wouldn't let me take it. I'm now really worried that she has my details and she could do all sorts of nasty stuff with them. If I'd been on the ball I would have been a bit more wary but it seems that I have left myself open to all kinds of fraud. If it could happen to me, (I'm usually quite savvy about this sort of thing), then it could happen so many times to so many vulnerable people. It truly scares me. In future, I will just close the door to uninvited people without getting sucked into conversation. I don't care if its rude any more.0 -
Sorry for posting on quite an old thread, but the other day, a Talk-Talk rep came to our door. I told him no, he could not speak to my parents as my father was out and my mother is disabled (she had a stroke a few years back, and gets agitated when talking to strangers sometimes). He seemed to accept this and went away without further persuasion.
However, I went out around an hour later, and when my father and I returned home, it was to find that this Talk-Talk representative had returned to our house and somehow talked my disabled mother into signing up for Talk-Talk's services.
I was livid at this breach of trust, but when my father phoned Talk-Talk to cancel the service and complain about the salesman's conduct, we found that he had not put down his name OR his ID, and neither had he told my mother either of these things. I think that this is highly suspicious, and I really do want to find out who this man is so that Talk-Talk can, and I quote: "investigate more fully".
I realise that this is a long shot, but:
He is a door to door salesman of Chinese origin (Eurasian), Talk-Talk worker, short (about 5'3"), black hair, stubble, white shirt, blue tie, black trousers black shoes, wary of dogs, been working in the NORTH WALES area for the last few weeks.
If anyone has seen him or knows his name, please reply to this post.0 -
Hello everybody, i have been reading the comments and agree mostly with what is being said, but having recently joined a marketing company involved in door to door sales i have been out in the field and this particular group of people where very respectfull, we knocked on peoples doors and asked them politly if they could have a chat about services we are offering in the area, now if they said know we merely asked why this was. if they had a no cold calling sighn, we didnt knock, now i know most people involved in this sort of work are indeed predators but i must say not all are the same, i take pride in my new line of work and enjoy meeting new people, yes people do get irritated but at the end of the day we are trying to make a living and we believe that meeting our customers face to face makes for a more pleasent expirience, means the customer doesnt have to spend hours on the phone waiting in a long line, we have a seperate number and can sort it out straight away, please dont catorgorise EVERY door to door salesman as a leech and predator and a liar......some of us genuinly do care about the people we see......
thanks0 -
i have a pedlars certificate which i can go door to door with selling my beaded jewellery i just wandered i anyone knows if i can do it on a bank holiday?:j0

I think that it should be illegal to knock on somones door when they have specifically indicated that they do not wish this to happen....ie the no cold callers sign. We have 2 large signs on the front door and we still get people trying to sell stuff we dont want/need/will ever buy at the door. One person told me he wasnt a cold caller because he had an "invitation to visit"...he had this by his company telling him to call in the area...!!!!!!!!
I would happily see anyone prosecuted for harrasment who called on someone with a sign displayed. A criminal conviction for the door to door salesman, for the c/o of the sales company and for the c/o of the company who hired the sales company. A big fine and community service should do it....the more fines a person/company gets the bigger the fine should be, if it continued a short spell inside might make them think twice
If I were a door to door salesman I really wouldnt bother wasting my time calling on people who dont want it and have indicated this...its not like Im going to make a massive sale or anything is it?0 -
