Sorry to hear of the redundancy but excellent that you have managed to get several interviews already. I hope you may be lucky enough to have a choice of job offers too!

Sometimes good can come from an imposed change but at the time the financial impact is of course a problem. It sounds like you are able to get a job without relocating?

    Best wishes

Good luck with all the interviews, 7k towards your mortgage will make a nice little dent.

    Best wishes Ev

Thanks everyone, I've now had several interviews and this morning had one offer this morning and a 2nd interview this afternoon for another job, I'm 1 of 1 candidates so likely to get an offer on this one as well, as long as I haven't screwed it up this pm.

It's likely that I'll accept the one I have had the offer on as its using some of the I have recently acquired but not had the chance to use them, the money is much better than I'm on now and there is good scope for development and progression as well as having a really good work life balance and flexi time.

Best of all I'll start on 4 August after finishing with my current employer on 31 July.

I should get my redundancy through in the next few weeks so we can lump the £7k off the mortgage which will save £33k over the course of the mortgage (not including the other OP's we're making.)

We've kind of lost track of where we are against budget this month what with going on holiday and all this business with my redundancy, but we'll get back on it next month, although my fuel costs will be much higher because of the new job (will be costing £60 per week in diesel).

You sound really positive about things which is great. I've been made redundant a few times and can honestly say that from the perspective of where I am at now, I now don't regret anything - but at the time it was tough to swallow.

Well done on sorting yourself out job-wise so quickly - great stuff!

Well done with the jobs, great that you won't have to wait too long to start the job you've had the offer on.

Well I have now accepted the job and am awaiting the contract which will hopefully arrive tomorrow so I can start on 4/08, if not it will be the 11/08 which would be lovely, but it does mean an extra week without pay and another week with my son who will be really confused when I go back, having had at least 6 weeks off with him. It will also take me a while to get back into the swing of things.

I went into work today to give back all my things, it was really sad, especially as I still don't want to leave.

I've been paid for the last time other than my redundancy which I should get in the next few weeks once I have signed and sent back my compromise agreement.

I need to sort our finances out again this month before I redo our budget for my new salary. I have managed to reduce our pet insurance by a third yesterday and Costco opens by us on Thursday so will do a big stock up then to last us a few months.

I've also go to decide what I will be doing with my pensions from work. Its a Stakeholder pension so there is the option of continuing to pay into it myself, but my new job, should I decide to stay with it when the initial 3 month contract comes to an end offers a final salary pension - oh decisions decisions.

A very busy few months coming up that's for certain.

On the plus side of things - I had a call today to say I had won a holiday for 7 nights in Southern Spain, Portugal or Tenerife I just for have to attend an exhibition for 2 hours on Saturday. Bargainous.

Good to hear you are moving forward, it will be difficult and I know from my redundancy in 1992, it takes a long time to "accept" your new place as it was a "forced" change. That said, new pastures, challenges etc... so best wishes with it and the associated rebudgeting.

LOL Right - not a hard sell to you of course. I'm sure you'll find time with DS will pay you back at a much better rate than 2 hours of pressure selling; unless you enjoy that????

    Cheers
