    Just a quick update!
Woolworths have written to me this week.
They said I have to get an independent TV repair person to come and see what is wrong with it and then when I tell them the problem they will let me know what they can do!
Does anyone know if I have to pay for a repair person to come out?
    Thanks....and sorry for being a pain :0)

You will have to pay for this report (get it in writing so you can send a copy to Woolworths). If he finds that it is a fault with the TV, then you should expect not only a repair from Woolworths, but also a refund of the money that you paid for this report. You should not be out of pocket in any way because of a manufacturing fault in the TV.

Woolworths are asking for this because of the way that the Sale of Goods Act works. For the first six months after purchase, it is up to the shop to prove that the item wasn't faulty when they sold it. After six months, it is up to you to prove the item is faulty. This is what you need an independent report for. Hopefully, the technician will find the fault, and you will get a repair plus refund for the technician.

At least Woolworths are acting properly now and not trying to worm their way out of this by giving you bogus advice/information.

You can always double check with Trading Standards if you are still unsure.

not being funny but are you sure it's dead? Have you switched in on via the buttons on the tv, or tried to turn a channel on via the remote, by pressing the channel number?
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

You should get a job in tech support, that's their favourite question, lol. Yes, I have tried switching it on. And off. And on again. I've discharged all power from the TV by unplugging everything and leaving it to stand but it still isn't firing up.
I'm hoping that it's nothing more serious than a starter fuse being blown as the TV accepts there is a power supply but that is all. I believe LCD TV's are modular with regards to their PCB's, so hopefully the fault is isolated perhaps to one of the boards rather than the whole set. But honestly, we've been through every possible procedure to try and get it to come on, every button combination to try and reset the TV and so on - so there's definitely an internal fault.
    Thanks for the suggestion anyway!

that would be a bad move, my next question would be whether you have a baseball bat to hand, and whether you have contents insurance!

Just wanted to let you know that I have had my TV repaired to the tune of £87.
I asked for a bill and posted it to Woolworths and had a phone call to say they are going to foot the bill :T
Thanks so much for your help, I'm really grateful!

    Excellent news. Well done.

It just shows that just a little bit of knowledge of what rights you are entitled to can go a long way sometimes (and save you money in the process).
