However, my opinion of them as a company with an excellent Customer Service approach is now tainted slightly, for now at least.

What - because they asked you to pay for something you bought?

    How unreasonable!

Although personally I've never had a good experience with JL's customer service. So I'm not really surprised by this "human error" in accounting.

Do you know, I am quite flabbergasted by how rude people can be when bestowed with anonymity and a keyboard!!

I have already said that I have taken on board the points made by everyone, accepted that my view was the minority one and that I paid up in full yesterday. Once again thank you all for bothering to respond.

But to call me a "downright liar", and accuse me of trying to "scam" John Lewis is a little bit OTT. I have done nothing dishonest - I didn't steal the item, I planned to ask permission from JL not to pay given the circumstances.

Finally, I never claimed that I "budget very tightly"; I just said that I hadn't budgeted for that particular expenditure in the month of April, rather I had budgeted for it in December. My budgeting efforts probably do leave a little to be desired in that I budget roughly at the beginning of the month how much I will spend, and on what, stick to it more or less, then at the end of the month if I have any money left then great, and if I don't, then fine. What I don't do, as I have said, is scour every bank statement to make sure every little transaction I have made in the month appears, which is why I didn’t realise that the payment had not been made. So, insult my personal budgeting methods if you like, but please don't make assumptions about my character.

    Jayne,

I would also be annoyed and reluctant to pay - I don't know why people act so high and mightly over your post, as I thought it was very well put and I can see that you arn't trying to scam John Lewis, but are genuinely miffed that you have in fact had poor service from them.

And, yes, it IS poor service as they did not debit the money within a reasonable time, and so you have carried on each month presuming you had X amount of money, when infact you had X -£50 amount.

If that were me, I would be struggling to pay £50 I hadn't realised I hadn't paid and still afford the shopping this week.

Glad you got it resolved, but I think people have been very rude in replying to your post x

:T Agree 100%, but if you take a look at the previous posts by "Iamthesmartestmanalive" (whose name itself is contradictory), you'll notice he actually has very few manners and people skills, and enjoys going OTT and insulting people!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

You'll usually find it's the same posters and so you get to learn who to ignore (or even put on your ignore list). But I'd say the majority of the posters on the forum in general are sincere and have at the very least glanced at the forum etiquette rules.

You're absolutely right! I'd like to see people like "Iamthesmartestmanalive" try and put their point accross face to face. Something tells me he/she is a skinny, sweaty and pale PC addict who couldn't (not wouldn't!) say boo to a goose.

I don't agree with your original intention (although I see where you were coming from in a way as it is annoying) but it seems you've been a little bullied reading the replies AFTER you followed up!
