Freecycle could be an option too. I got DD2's first Brownie sweatshirt form there. :)

I am in a similar boat (DD just joined Brownies) and am looking for some cheap uniform as she will be 10 in september so won't get much use out of it. Freecycle is confusing me... joined freecycle, did search for local group, get directed then to yahoo, so does that mean as well as joining freecycle, i also have to join yahoo as well? Everything these days is register for this and that, no wonder there is so much junk mail flying around!!

Hi, I don't know if this will help but they do sell 3 packs of the old Jeff Banks style brownie uniform on the guidingessentials website.

    3 polo shirts £10

    or 3 t shirts

I don't suppose it matters if its old or the new style but they are pretty good value. Otherwise try e-bay or ask at a local guide group if any of the guides have their old brownie uniforms going spare!

I would check how many other girls wear the old style uniform first, and how the leaders feel about it.

It may be a bit easier for twins as they have the support of each other, but I imagine some children would feel pretty awkward if they stand out as different iyswim?

Personally, I would buy it bit by bit. Start with the sash, if that is what you will use (I bought dd's hoodie very big and sew her badges on there) and then maybe a tee-shirt and trousers/skort last.

    Hello,

I'm a Brownie leader, so I might be able answer some of the questions!

You really only need to buy a t-shirt, trousers and probably a sash for brownies - please don't go and buy avery bit of kit they have going!!!!
Annie is right! Many of our Brownies only wear the t-shirt and hoodie, and then wear their own trousers. I normally recommend that they get the short-sleeved t-shirt (rather than the long-sleeved one), with the hoodie, as that will be good for both summer and winter. I don't recommend the sash - they seem to slip off shoulders, and are not great when we're doing activities. Badges can be sewn anywhere on the uniform AFAIK.

The Jeff Banks uniform will cease to be recognised as uniform later this year, so will only be suitable for camp etc.

if all else fails, you could just buy the sash (for badges etc) and get a primark (or other generic brand) yellow tshirt and some school type trousers?
That'd be fine as a first step, but uniform is required for insurance purposes, particularly for events away from the meeting place.

Freecycle is a good place to start, or could you put an ad/notice up on the Brownie Hut door or your village notice board? Don't forget to try FatFingers for eBay too!

Try the local charity shops and if not ask if they have any that come in to put them by for you
Try and pop in either regularly or on a set day so they don't forget. I work in the back and we do get a lot of requests for stuff but can't remember them all but do remember the local and regular customers more.

I'm Brownie leader too! Hi Georgina!

I do prefer my brownies to wear the uniform as much as possible, however I do appreciate that they are expensive and as it takes 6 weeks before they make their promise (and really need them) so I suggest that items are bought a few at a time.

We have a local depot where we have a stash of second hand uniform which can be bought for a donation, also at our local depot we are able to offer a 10% discount from the web prices, there is a number on the guiding website to ring to find your local depot they might be able to help. I don't tend to get old uniform handed in unfortunatly, I think it all goes to the guide depot.

    From the guiding website
    Depots
As well as the shops, there are over 800 depots across the UK which sell the full range of Trading Service goods. Call 0161 941 2237 to find out where your nearest depot is.

Also before you splash out on the badge books all the badges are online through the brownie section of the guiding website.

I'm sure your girls will have a great time, guiding is 100 this year!
