Hi,
My wifes mobile (virgin pay as you go, phone bought from Virgin in 2006, and replaced by them last year) suddenly stopped working. After a call to virgin, on my phone, they tell us it has be locked as it was reported stolen. Basically the operator didn't want to know - they seemed to want some proof of purchase, despite the phone being provided by them.
We haven't called back yet and wanted a plan of action, should the police be involved in this? Shouldn't there be crime number or something?
Obviously we're quite miffed as we now own a rather expensive paper weight.
Anyone any thought?

IF you have the original receipt it SHOULD show the IMEI no. theres your proof of purchase, and if you ordered over the internet might be in your email.
If you got it from Virgin Mobile, ring them up, ask them if they could provide you with a receipt and IMEI no. of the phone you purchased - they should have a record, if they say no chances are they can't be bothered, just persist or ring again and get put through to a different (hopefully more helpful) CS agent.0 -
you would have thought they would have a record wouldn't you... it took them at least 5 minutes to work out why the phone wasn't working...!
Not sure we have the original receipt, but the phone was replaced - without any paper work, so other than the box with a virgin security seal, we have nothing for this particular phone.0 -
So you bought the phone in 2006, brand new from Virgin.com? Then it was replaced when? By who?
Chances are that it was replaced by the manufaturer, so it would be a good idea to ring the manufacturer and either ask about the original phone you were given i.e. what happened to it, clearly they must have a log of it because they must have tried to repair it.
The other option is to contact these people and tell them your story, these are the people that block phones:

Yup, new from a mega store, it developed a fault as I recall, Virgin replaced it pretty quickly.
I just can't imagine what they are doing - THEY gave US the phone!
I'm hoping that talking to a decent CS agent might sort this, otherwise Mr Branson is getting a stern letter...0 -

If you still have the box, it should have the IMEI on it (which you also get from your phone) - try asking under what circumstances it was blocked, maybe someone rang through to immobilise their phone and missed a few digits (unlikely I know but who knows..). In any case, the fact that you have the box should pretty much give you a solid case that this phone is totally legit.Official DFW Nerd Club: Member No: 6190
