Mandles, all addresses on the internet are really numbers. Directories (called DNS) take what you type in and convert it to a number. So for example when you type www.bidnapper.com it really turns into this:
http://64.62.203.218
If you type that in it will take you to the page you want but you will keep hitting the same problem as you navigate around it.0 -
The solution...
It is indeed a DNS problem that NTL are having in the Brighton area (and possibly other areas too) with many web pages being mis-directed. Having spoken to tech support you can fix it by going via a proxy.
Here is what to do (if you are using IE):
* In the browser choose Tools, Internet Options, and click on the Connections tab.
* Click on LAN settings, tick "Use a proxy server..."
* Enter address 80.3.32.5 and port 8080, then click OK
It should work ok after that.
I imagine in a few weeks after they have eventually fixed the problem you will be able to go in and remove (untick) the proxy again.
EDIT: It works for Firefox too but after doing the change I found you need to close Firefox down, restart it, and then hit the "Refresh Page" if you get the same message again.0 -
