I get about 20mpg in my car (on a good day and without the air con on) - I like to burn my (very expensive) PETROL by moving fast!
Diesel fumes are nasty. Were it a petrol car I wouldn't have complained (well, apart from it being a waste to use it without moving).0 -

All fumes are nasty and as you only get 20mpg you are putting a lot more in to the atmosphere than I am....but I wont complain0 -

Dependent on engine size, ambient temperature etc, the average car will use about 1 to 1.5 litres of fuel purely at idle. The man without a signature.0

Aren't diesel fumes more toxic than petrol?
nope, check out the new vehicle exise duty on cars, the highest band is petrol burning cars, small and large, compare with diesel variants and you will find a substantial difference in price. especially if fitted with a particulate filter....work permit granted!0 -

I said toxins, not emissions.
Quick google search found this:
According to a recent report by CSE, Euro-III diesel cars emit 7.5 times more toxic particulate matter compared to petrol cars.
“This means one diesel car is equal to adding 7.5 petrol cars to the car fleet in terms of particulate matter and three petrol cars in terms of nitrogen oxide emissions. This clearly reflects the flawed emission standards that allow diesel cars to emit more nitrogen oxide and particulate matter compared to petrol cars. The air toxics from a diesel car are very harmful and carcinogenic and seven times higher than petrol cars,” says Anumita Roychowdhury, Head of CSE’s Right to Clean Air Campaign.0 -
Easiest way to find out roughly, tomorrow after work, fill your tank. On Wednesday do your normal day, and then fill back up in the evening.
On Thursday drive to work and fill up the tank.
Multiply the amount you put in the tank on Thursday by 2, then subtract it from the amount you top the tank up with on Wednesday...0
