Printer Recommendations

Options
I've just recently ordered a lovely new pc (Mesh Premier) and I'm now looking for a printer - I'd like a printer that is able to print different paper sizes, envelopes, brochures and the like - a printer that doesn't use really expensive ink hopefully.

Not sure on cost but I guess less than £100.00 if possible.

Any ideas? :))))

  • I can reccomend a Canon Pixma 3000 (which I have), or for your budget, you could get the next one up, the 4000.

Compatible cartridges from ChoiceStationery and you are away.

  • Any of the Canon IP Pixma range. I have the 2000, superb results, very cheap to run and doesn't need the heads cleaning if you haven't used it for a week unlike my old Epson did. Check out the newer models for something in your price range.

Whatever you do, don't buy a Lexmark as they are just about the most expensive printers to run.

EDIT: Ahh, great minds...you were a bit quicker though :T

  • Thanks ever so much, I'll check the canon out - great minds indeed! :)

If you don't need colour, I've just bought a Samsung 1610 laser for £80 from Argos. It's excellent for text and bottles of toner refill are about £8 and last thousands of pages.

    Got the IP3000 - it's a very nice printer.

The IP4000 adds an extra photo black and uses smaller ink drops.

The last two times I've looked for prices the cheapest option was PCWorld (!) using Collect@Store. Once shipping was added it was more expensive elsewhere. You might have to search to find the models - I don't think they appear in the main listings.

Have you refilled it? I, along with others, considered it when Ebuyer had it on offer for £50 but we couldn't find any refill instructions. (We found the bottled toner).

  • Yes I want colour :)I

've found the PIXMA IP4000 printer online via Currys, Dixons and Comet for £78 plus pennies, all seem to be doing a web special, no delivery charge (£99.00 in store) - the cable that connects the printer to the pc has to be bought separately though. Looks a nice printer! :D

If you use Collect@Store with PCWorld (and possibly Currys) you get it at the delivery price but you take it away from the store. :)

Don't pay their rip off prices for USB cables. I bought a 3m one for £1 in a Pound Shop.

Glad you didn't get a Lexmark. I did and the cartridges cost a fortune! Even the cheaper compatible ones are only a couple of £ less.

I guess I shall have to learn how to refill the cartridges instead of buying new ones...
