Hello
Have just this minute swapped 2 X 256mb for 2 X 1GB and disapointingly can't say that I have noticed any difference.
I have also upped the Virtual RAM as recommended by bazzlad's thread.
My Computer recognises the fact that it has 2gb in it.
Please can someone suggest what other settings I might need to tweak to get best performance?!?!
Thanks for your time:beer:

I think the techies will need some more info from you. RAM does not make the system go faster, but it improved the performance/speed of some processes, usually the memory grabbing ones. What have you tried?
I suggest you put down the spec of your PC for them to have a look and give you some advice.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Whats the Spec?, whats the OS?
It might of been pointless upgrading to 2GB depending on your system and what you use it for.0 -

Agree, without knowing the context it's impossible to make any judgement. Depending on the specs that kind of upgrade could vastly improve performance or make no difference at all. Depends on the other components, especially if RAM wasn't the bottleneck or weakest link in the chain."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

You need to give more info before you can get a useful reply.
What cpu ,what op. system , how full is your h/drive -if you try and defrag it this will tell you-motherboard? How old is your o.s. install?0 -
Hi.
Thanks for the reply.
I tend to use it for music and browsing predominantly.

haven't read that thread but if u have upgraded to 2 gb ram windows will automatically up the swapfile to 2Gb
anyway this is very bad the swapfile is disk based and will cause your system to slow down alot, u need less swapfile not more
a celeron 2.8 from my experience will show a significant increase in performance upped from 512mb>1Gb and a tiny bit from 1gb > 2gb but they use a very slow fsb so max out easily
Disable the swapfile u dont need it, and after that run disk clean up then defragclick here to achieve nothing!0 -
But extra RAM isn't really needed for listening to music or browsing.Hi.

Extra RAM won't play music any differently.
Your browsing experience will be determined by the download speed from your ISP.
For both these uses 512MB is adequate.
With 2GB you may notice improvements when using other software packages though.
My CPU is a Celeron 2.26GHz, so I won't take the Mickey.:rolleyes:Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -

Hi. I appreciate that. I suppose I got the extra RAM as when I have a few applications open at once - Photo editor type things and WMP for example, alt+tab takes a bit of time so swap over....if you see what I mean.Reassuringly expensive0 -

Hi. That sounds good.
How does a numpty disable the swapfile please? Is SF & Virtual RAM the same thing?
