Haha - you've not tried a Nitha special yet!
Fry an onion or two, add some frozen brocolli, cauliflower, spinach and peas and saute until soft. Then add tinned tomatoes and some boiling water. Bring to the boil and simmer for half and hour. Blend with the Tesco value three pound hand blender.
I leave it like that as I use it for baby food too, but you can add a veg stock cube, curry powder, herbs and garlic or even mustard. Then freeze.Taking baby-steps :beer:0 -

Dolmio has onion in it you know! I only like onion if it's really well done - just cook it on a low heat for ages. Mrs Beeton recommends adding some brown sugar to soften them too.Taking baby-steps :beer:0

I know the feeling, I hate onion as well, but to be honest you really don't notice it in pasta sauce. For one tin of chopped tomatoes, I only use a quarter of a red onion (sweeter than the normal one) and thats enough for me.
As for the George Foreman, I've used mine twice (I won it, so I don't worry about having not used it). Once was for steak, which was lovely. The other was for sausages which didn't turn out very well...they burnt. But I think they'd be fine but larger things like chicken and burgers.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650 -
Hey SS! Great to see that youre moving out! It will be fab! As others have said get off to car boots for basic recipe books, saucepans, cutlery plates etc and for the start just say ta when someone gives you freebie brown pans! It will take you a while to settle into living on your own & the less money you spend the better initially! Freecycle is great for beds/furniture etc as are free ads!
Re the cooking I'll post you a very easy bread recipe that certainly is SS proof and wil also impress the girlies! us girlies do like a man who can cook & the more you cook the more confident you get & the more you experiment = the more you become a babe magnet!!
Learn the basics and make sure youre new pad has a freezer! Start saving things like marge tubs for storage which saves on buying them. Do you like soup? Pasta & bacon...If so I have very simple recipes I can type out for you!
Ask questions, no matter how silly - people are generally v. friendly & helpful! Well done on getting the debts down so low! Incredible in such a short time!
Also if people ask what you want for a moving in pressie argos or ikea vouchers mean you can get what you like! I have a knife block but usually resort to a cheapie one i got in tesco from their forever sharp range. Needs sharpening but is fab and I've had it years!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Quick wholemeal "ss proof" bread (Readers digest recipe)
450g/1 Ibs strong wholemeal bread flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp easy blend dried yeast
1 tsp light mucadavo sugar or clear honey
450ml/15fl oz tepid water
1 tsp plain white four to dust
* 2 -3 tablespoons sunflower seeds if you want extra nuttiness!
Lighty grease 2ib loaf tin and set aside while making bread.
Sift flour salt & yeast into large bowl – tipping any extra unseived bran in and make a well in the centre.
Stir honey or sugar into tepid water and then add this mix to the flour. I mix it in with my hand (take any rngs off first or it gets everywhere!!) for approx 2 mins until it comes away from the sides adding a bit of flour if its too sticky but it should be quite sticky anyway! *At this stage add sunflower seeds etc if you want to!
Put dough into the tin & cover for approx 30 mins – should rise to top of tin.
Sprinkle white flour on top for effect (I often forget & it still looks good!)
Preheat oven to 200C/400F/GM 6
Place tin in oven & cook for 30-40 mins – should tap hollow when done. You can return this to the oven for 5 mins if you want crispy sides! Place on baking rack & cool with cloth over it! Eat & enjoy! It really is easy peasy lemon squeezy & has a nice texture!
