    DISASTER! DONT DO IT!!!!
I went to the Manchester Tanning Shop yesterday for my free spray tan and am now sitting in work with toothpaste on my nose, hands, feet and arms with workmates coming in for an inspection and a cheap laugh!
I assumed before I went in that they would find out how tanned I would want to be, especially as I am a milkbottle colour and only wanted a bit of colour. But no. Got put in the booth, told to put some cream on the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet (which happened to be tan extender!) and left to it. The machine spurted brown crap on me which was running in rivers down my body, so much for a fine mist. I had to try and wipe it off with a tissue and when I told the girl at the desk that it was spurting unevenly she went 'Yeah....some people have mentioned that....' completelely non-plussed. "So what do I do????" "Did you rub it in?" 'No I wiped it off' "If you rubbed it in you will be fine, if you dont like it just shower it off when you get home." "But I wiped it!!" "If you rubbed it in you will be fine" I told you I didnt!
So despite there being a clear fault with the machine they offered no useful help and were completely unapologetic.
Do not try this if you have a special occasion coming up. I am bright orange, blotchy and streaked everywhere. The palms of my hands and soles of my feet are black (despite wiping them down) and I am having to cover up like im in the arctic.
At least I know never to pay for this treatment!

I had my free spray tan at the Shirley branch on Thurs 24 May evening. I rang & was told didnt need to book, and sure enough when I arrived was shown straight in. Did have to give a fingerprint scan though which I agree is a bit odd.

But anyway, the guy went through the instructions thoroughly and I was left alone to do in my own time. The blowers dried most of it off although I still felt a bit sticky.

I was told to try and leave on til the next morning before showering, and warned not to worry if it went streaky (which it did) as this would wash off.

Sure enough, after my shower the next morning I was left with a fairly even tan, the only weird bit was the soles of my feet which were dark brown! I thought the colour was very natural, esp on my face. I was asked if I had been away by my hairdresser which I was chuffed about!

It lasted around 4-5 days in total, apart from my hands & face which faded first. So in all I would recommend going for the freebie, although I don't really consider it worth £25.
  • Reading this thread it seems different branches have different machines and methods.
I went to the Coventry branch yesterday and had to do the whole rubbing the tanning stuff off thing with paper towels. The girl also said to get some wet wipes and keep wiping my hands and feet to prevent them going too brown (as well as putting on moisturiser beforehand). I said I wasn't going home straight away but she said I'd be OK as the tan doesn't start developing straight away. Anyway before I got home I noticed my hands were turning and by the time I was home it was too late! I wiped and wiped, washed and scrubbed and even soaked them in bleach but it didn't make any difference. I look like I'm wearing brown leather gloves (apart from my pink and white fingernails) - and very old, worn ones at that! :rotfl:
I definately wouldn't have it done again.
  • Oh, and I also look like I've been dip dyed because my face and chest hardly look any different and then I get browner further down my body. I think this is because I started rubbing the stuff off on my face first and worked down so it was on for longer on my legs.
And the spray wasn't cold at all, in fact the experience was very hot and stuffy.

    Hi Bellyfester,

I think i might be able to shed some light on that for you.

I also had an appointment booked for yesterday. Unfortunatly I also had a hairdressers app and they cancelled on me. So I had 3 hours to wait until my Spray tan sess. I went to the tanning shop to ask if I could go early and she said no, i'd have to come back at the right time. Three hours of complete boredom later (and no money to spend in the shops) I arrived back at the tanning shop and was told they were having a few problems. I sat down to wait and after 15 minutes the girl told me it wouldnt even turn on any more. She said it was very broken. What a fruitless day :( no haircut and no tan :(

I think the machine must have been on its way out when you used it, perhaps it was spurting out far too much spray.

I phoned this morning and they said I could come back on Friday. Pretty annoyed that I was given any other choice, but its free so I cant complain.

I guess thinking about it now I was lucky that it had broken or I could have ended up looking like a stripey oompa lumpa (who knows I still might).

    I hope that helps.
