2 yr old scared of non existent "buzzy bee"

I have a 2 year old who seems to have picked up a phobia of wasps/bees from somewhere!?!?
He will be playing all by himself......or trying to get to sleep at night, and suddenly start crying as if he's hurt himself. He flings himself into my arms and says "dont like the buzzy bee". If I ask him where it is, he will point at either nothing, or just a bit of fluff on the floor!?!?
Is this normal? If so, how do I "beat it out of him"!?!?

My son (almost 4) is similar, but reckons even flys are bees lol.
I sat him down and explained the job that a bee does and stressed that as long as he leaves it alone to do its 'work' it won't want to bother with upsetting a little boy when its so busy.
Try to impress on him that bees are important insects, very friendly as long as they're left alone and won't hurt unless they feel threatened
good Luck and let us know how you get on :beer:0 -
Do you think he may have a 'buzzy' sound in his ears? Maybe a hearing test would be useful?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
awwww bless him. have you thought about getting a small water sprayer so that you can spray the said "buzzy bee" and tell your son that it's buzzy bee killer. maybe he's hearing a fly.
my son doesn't like my hoover (handy when he's being naughty and i need to get him on the naughty chair lol) yet i brought him his very own hoover which he loves? kids and their strange ways lol1st son born 11/02/05 2nd son born 09/01/08

I wouldn't encourage the notion of 'killing bees' though, just in case he ever tries it on a real one and gets attacked0 -

I did initially think that, but then it became obvious that it only happened when we were not paying him attention, etc!0 -

Hi my son is 2 and is also just started being afraid of bees, I assumed he had seen too much pooh bear as he has never liked it when pooh is chased by the bees, so when they came near him in the garden this summer he has come running in screaming but is also afraid of mosquitos and flies and calls them bees because of the buzzing. I think heis is def and age thing as its around that time dd would let us know she didnt like balloons, the hoover and all manner of things. My son just gets told to ignore the bee he isnt interested in you and will fly away in a minute watch and so he calms down and watches the bee fly away.0

are there any nice story books about friendly bees?
I'd check his ears out too tho - he might only hear it when it's quiet and he might not notice it as much with other background noises0 -
Oh, this has amused me, my 2 year old has just been going through a phase
Difference was - he had a 'tiger' in his room, which he kept crying about.
OH went looking in the room and found a wasp.....my DS never knew what it was and called it a tiger cos of the stripes
Anyway, Dad 'hunted' it down and sent it back to the 'zoo'........:rotfl:
Trouble is...now he is going on about bees/wasps, so if anyone knows of any books, I would like to get one as well.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
