So is there a way yet to get the £20 Freesat card for nowt from Sky (or elsewhere)? (Apart from stealing it!) I don't like the principle of paying £20 to Sky for very little in return. What do I get for my £20 - will I even get the Freesat menu displayed on screen or will I get a jumble of channels whose number I will have to remember?
What about cancelling from Sky and just using my current Sky card? What channels will I get?
I have the exact same questions!
I ended up staying with Sky cos I got offered Sky+ box for just £49...
Probably tied up for a new 12 months contract now.. not sure though.
But I am still thinking about cancelling to get Freesat from Sky.
Answers to the above questions will be very helpful :j0 -
Just 'bumping' this one, as I was surprised to see no posts in the last few days.
I'm interested in taking Freesat, especially because there isn't anything much more MoneySaving than a satellite service with no contract and no subscription!0 -
I'm looking into getting freesat, I have just moved house across the other side of town and have managed to lose the freeview channels I had and gained the ones I didn't have... very weird! The channels through the aerial are rubbish so at the moment not a great TV experience for me... I will probably go with installation from somewhere, although could I then take the dish with me if I moved again???0

Don't know the answer to using your current card, suggest you try it before spending money?
However we did pay £20 for the card from sky, and bought an old sky box off ebay to connect to a cheapie lidl satellite, and you use your normal remote and get your normal menu of channels, but if you try and access a pay channel it simply tells you it isnt available. HTH
And I am tired of all the fuss about freeview etc, despite living in an area with a quarter of a million people we wont be able to get it until 2012 and even then not channel 5, which we also cant get on terrestrial. GRRR (rant over)0 -
Im loving my freesat, got a Humax box and octo lnb fitted the satellite myself which i relatively easy if ya have a satellite finder (£10 from currys). Waiting on the PVR and this box will go into a bedroom.Money, Money, Money ..... Banks/Casinos/Bookies give me all you money its a poor mans world....0

Is there any way to take advantage of the £75 sky forever package AND the "refer a friend" free sky+ box?0

Yes I noticed that my reception got worse in May and I have tried to contact the bbc and freesat as I believe that they downgraded the reception so that the freesat would look attractive - marketing ploy. It does not seem that a lot of people are noticing this - my reception is awful for sport now and most programmes are a little less crisp and almost fuzzy at times ...
Not sure what else we can do. I have written to watchdog - but they are the BBC!0 -
Do it yourself just look where the sun hits your home at 10am thats where your dish goes
I assume that means 10:00 GMT (not BST) - what time of year is the sun at the right height? At 11:00 BST in August the sun is surely much higher than the satellite?0
