Yes, I can! E4, E4+1, More4, More4+1. Addicted to Scrubs again. :) They became unencrypted on the day of the launch of Freesat. Yay!

Although strictly speaking I've got one of those Sky/BBC £20 one-off FTV cards. It is my understanding though that it probably doesn't even need a card on the most part, as anything that works now on Freesat ought to work on on a Sky setup without a card or subscription, as Freesat channels must be entirely unencrypted.

I think not all the channels, like 4, are available with the FTV card. Why isn't Dave on either Freesat?! All these variations are so confusing - and why call the new BBC service Freesat as well? That just makes it confusing with the older Freesat from sky!

Yes it is confusing however I seem to recall it was BBC that had the name Freesat well before sky used it although it wasnt used. No idea why Sky were allowed to use the name though

Do it yourself just look where the sun hits your home at 10am thats where your dish goes a cheap meter from maplin around £8 4 hilty bolts and your off.

I put my dish at the base of my back garden shed on a 3 foot pole in the ground out of sight and ran the 20mt of cable along the bottom of the fence to the house works fine.

You can also watch sky at the same time twin lnb on the dish double connection box at the dish and a spliter box at the receiver so you can switch from one receiver to the other at will.

Thanks. We don't have a Sky+ box. Might be worth having the installation option done I think.

Have a good look at the disk. You may still have a 4 port LNB.

Channel 4 is also now Free on 10729V 22000 5/6 but the name is 8350 as I found out when updating my spare sat receiver. Note that it is probably named properly on Freesat boxes -- Dave

Any problem with getting the Dixons offer mentioned earlier in the article....

Got the Dixons deal last summer when it was a 6 month offer. Phoned to cancel and they couldn't do it on the system (after 30 minutes on the phone). So cancelled in writing.
Lost count of the number of letters I got from them threatening/reminding me of my contract and that I owed them £19.99 per month. Phoned again (by the way don't forget Saynoto0870!) and again. Transpired that their system couldn't cope with 6 month contracts as everything was for 12 months. I will NEVER have anything to do with Sky ever again. Took about 8 weeks to sort out.

I had exactly the same issue and am still not sure they've sorted it out completely. Now I just need to figure out if I can connect a Freesat box plus my Sky Forever box and what I get on each, it's pretty hard assimilating it all in the mass of information in this thread. Sounds like a wait of a few months is in order to let the market settle out though.

    Hi,

What's the difference between what we are watching, as freesat viewers, and this new Freesat? Can we get it? If so, how? And do we need a new digibox?

Best to wait for 12 months until the prices start to tumble and the cable tv people make some offers.

Remember video recorders and how expensive they were at first?
:o Keep trying.........................what else is there to do? :o

Rang on friday after receiving a 'bill' through the door starting the next month (day of offer expiry) rang up, explained the idea of no contract, told them the service would cease to be received after the 20th and any extra viewing after that time would be considered a gift to me. If they had an issue with that then I would quite happily see them in court and to save paper by not billing me for the months I had no intention of paying.

Rang up today (5 days in advance) to check everything OK, account had been cancelled incorrectly and was on 30 day notice (therefore charging me £21). I explained the circumstances, the guy said it was skys fault and credited my account with £21.

    Now awaiting bill.

Similar thing happened with NTL, ended up with a set of refunds that paid for my entire three years of service with them.

Not sure how these people are still in business!

I've read all the posts in this thread and cannot see a definitive answer to my queries.

Not being a DIY'er I like the idea of the dixons deal with the code to price it around £67, and I am prepared for the hassel of cancellation after 4 months.

Is it possible after 4 months to just plug in a BBC Freesat decoder and for it to work with no fiddling? Also, the promised HD PVR decoder, can the same be done with that, ie the same co-axial lead and the same LNB?

    Thank you in advance.

Crankie, I think the fastest answer is that there isn't a definitive answer as we don't know yet as the HD PVR isn't out yet. It also depends on whether your discounted install fits a 2x LNB, giving the 2 signals necessary to record 1 and watch another. Someone says earlier in the thread that Sky always install these nowadays. But from what I've read you're correct.
