Thats Not quite corecct you can watch BBC HD on a Sky HD
box without having to have a Sky viewing card
How can I do this Oliver - it does not work on my sky plus box - I pay £21 per month or something ridiculous, but this does not give me the BBC HD channel. To infinity and beyond!0 -
I'm not sure if I'm signed up for another 12 months with Sky just because I have a new box with them..
Any help is much appreciated!
:j
i am pretty sure u will be tied up to another 12 month contract from the date of the installation of the new sky+ box, i know we wa, as we did exactly the same as u, 8 months ago, so only 4 left, but then we will just go with freesat from sky, dont see the point of forking out for another box when skys freesat gives u alot more channels to choose from than this new thing from bbc/itv, oh except the one hd channel that can watch 6 hours a day, sound like a bargain to meTake every day as it comes!!0 -

Any problem with getting the Dixons offer mentioned earlier in the article....
Got the Dixons deal last summer when it was a 6 month offer. Phoned to cancel and they couldn't do it on the system (after 30 minutes on the phone). So cancelled in writing.
Lost count of the number of letters I got from them threatening/reminding me of my contract and that I owed them £19.99 per month. Phoned again (by the way don't forget Saynoto0870!) and again. Transpired that their system couldn't cope with 6 month contracts as everything was for 12 months. I will NEVER have anything to do with Sky ever again. Took about 8 weeks to sort out.
So what you are saying is that five minutes after it is installed and working, start the cancellation process and I should just about have enough time before the four months is up.:rolleyes::rolleyes:0 -

Should be fine as it comes from space :rotfl:
Seriously though, it will have the same coverage as sky - meaning the vast majority of the UK (someone correct me if Im wrong), and unless you live in a forest with really high trees all around you, you ought to be fine.0 -

Checkout http://www.flysat.com/ebird1-beam.php
These are the Eurobird coverage maps for Sky digital so Freesat should match.
Here is the Astra 2 coverage.....

and here is the channels that Sky has and which satellite those channels are being put out on.

Since you can use a Sky dish to get Freesat without re-aligning the dish. In theory at least (don't you just love a good theory?) Most of the Freesat channels would possibly reach to Spain.0 -
It depends on your dish.
there's two parts to it. The dish, and the receiver (LNB). The old receivers only had space to connect 1 sky box.
Sky+ receivers have an LNB with 4 sockets (A sky+ box uses two of those).
Now, I think that all new installations since sky+ was announced use this 4port LNB. Wiring in extra sky boxes is as simple as running a satalite coax type wire (easy to get from B&Q) from the dish to the room. We used one in the kids play room for their TV until I got a cheap (and quite hopeless) PVR for xmas for them.
So, if you run a new cable down, you could even put a sky box and a freesat box in the same room.
Thanks. We don't have a Sky+ box. Might be worth having the installation option done I think.0 -
Hi,
The number of channels available is tiny; BBC, ITV, CH4, FIVE, Sky news and one or two others.
That's a bit poor - you can get more than that over a broadband connection with Zattoo...0
