Hi!

I've never done any gardening in my life but have just cut the grass for the first time at our house and it was very weedy and yellow!

What is the best product to get which can make it look nice quickly and easily which won't break the bank!

Thanks a lot to anyone who can help in advance!

Levington Feed & Weed. (I think it might be called Levington Complete now). Available at every DIY shed, garden centre and many supermarkets.

There are own brand versions of the same thing - they will be right next to it on the shelf!

It's granular and comes in a handy spreader and refill boxes. You need to have some rain forecast or water in within a couple of days though.

    Hello mattarmy

I'll move your thread to the 'Greenfingered' board.

Evergreen complete does not work on dandelions. At least it hasn't yet.
I put some on my lawn thursday, a few of the leaves are starting to go brown and the grass is getting greener, but there are still loads of dandelions.
I'm sure they knew I was going to try to kill them as well, the following morning after applying the Evergreen almost every single head turned to seed:eek:

I put some feed and weed down but didn`t realise you had to water it. I have a water meter so I think twice about wasting pressure water!

I put it down Thursay lunch time and it poured down on the night, thunder and lighning and all. The water I think is for the feed side though.

    Works well with dandelions.

Like most weed killers, it seems to make the weeds go into a growth spurt for a couple of days - then they go all 'twisty' then die back.

Watering in will help, especially in this weather.

If you READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE BOX it will tell you!!! It is partly to stop over-concentration of the chemicals on the blades of grass (as might happen with morning dew for example) from burning your lawn.

Always a good idea to read the instructions with any garden chemicals - they will tell you useful things like [strike]how to[/strike] if you might kill next doors cat/your dog/your prize koi carp or your kids if you use them incorrectly!

Try "Green Thumb" (see website) almost as cheap as DIY. you cant expect just 1 treatment to work if you lawn is poor, it could take years.

Do you have any fish? Fish water is full of nitrogen and great for lawns.

Mowing weekly should get rid of a lot of the weeds. Although, don't be too precious about it. Weedy lawns look the same unless you're close and are much better for wildlife. Bees love clover.
