Despite still being young enough to go clubbing (just about!) we too like relatively quiet holidays. Lindos is all little cobbled streets with loads of gorgeous restaurants, most of which have romantic roof terraces.
Lindos definitely doesn't feel British, or too tacky/touristy.
Great, thanks for that. I've not heard the best things about Rhodes, although to be fair I have little knowledge of Greece or the Islands. I shall def check Lindos out on tripadvisor.
BTW what is it like for non drivers?0 -
Despite having been on more than my fair share of holidays, I have never driven abroad.
We went to Lindos on a package holiday (www.libraholidays.co.uk), so transfers from the airport weren't an issue.
The resort is pedestrianised, so no issues with transport there! We only ventured away a couple of times, but did it on an organised trip with coach transport included. These are incredibly easy to sort out, as everything can be booked cheaply through the travel agent in town.0 -
Hi, we went to Girona in Spain (actually Girona and not on to Barcelona!) for our anniversary. it was a lovely place, lots of architecture, good food, and bars where the locals go. We only saw one other english couple over a long weekend!I often think about The Samuel Vimes 'Boots' Theory Of Socio-Economic Injustice. :cool:0

If you want to do absolutely nothing except relax then Egypt is great. 1 week is perfect for this, but it can get to about 40 in july! maybe best to hit Greece
good luck. 0 -
Hi all, just an update! Last night I booked our holiday. Decided on Portugal - Lagos infact. I am not 100% sure about Lagos as it was a bit similar to Yarmouth but the hotel has good reviews on Trip Advisor and it was only £283.75 (each) for 7 days self catering in a studio with a kitchenette including flights!
We really wanted to go to Egypt but the temperatures can apparently reach up to 50 degrees in July and I would have died!
Thanks for all the help!0 -
I can recommend Estoril and Cascais. Always seems warmer than it should be, loads to do and Lisbon is wonderful. Sintra is well worth a visit too.0

Hiya
These apartments http://www.apartmentshurghada.co.uk look really nice and furnished to a luxurious standard from only £125.00 a week which is a bargain considering Egypt is really really cheap - we went out in 2004 and a 3 course meal for 4 with drinks was only £38.00!! Also, can buy a huge steak (t-Bone) for about £5.00. We couldn't believe how cheap it was and are going back next year.
You may pay a little more on the flights, but compared to Europe your overall holiday will be much much less0 -
Have you thought about Italy? Especially the lakes (I went to lake Garda on a few occasions). Really warm, gorgeous scenery, the best food and a few quiet pubs

If you change your mind and go to America, I can recommend New Orleans.0
