Just caught up with your thread sorry. :o

I had a joint basic acc with my OH and only I went bc. I took my name off the account(2 days before bc) but still had my wages ect paid into it.Put it down on my SOA as you have to,expained to the OR and the account was fine. Still (5 mths later) don' have my own acc. I did go into the local branch with hubby to take my name off and explained why i was doing it. Remember it is the banks that close the accounts not the OR.

  • Jo, hubby is REME, and I hope they wont want anything in terms on an IPA from hubby because he is already on a DMP and we wont be able to eat otherwise lol

Dalip, thanks for the info about the bank accounts. I do need to get one sorted though cos when hubby is away I need to be able to access money and I wont if he has the only bank account and has his card with him lol.

Am still a bit worried about the whole car thing.. (can you tell lol).

Also had another thought. I am doing courses with the Open Uni that we are paying for monthly. I am pretty sure that is on a credit agreement so does anyone know if that will be affected, as obviously I don't want to jeapordise the course I have been working so hard on and hoping to get a degree out of at some point!

If it comes to it, I will just have to delay going BR till I finish the courses :-/
  • em not sure about the course, but i know wherediditallgo is doing a OU course at the moment.
She might have more idea. If she doesn't reply to your thread then maybe PM her.

Hi, yes I'm doing my OU course. I wasn't actually doing a module when I went BR but told my OR I wanted to sign up for one due to start in September 2007. He said he wouldn't allow the cost primarily because the course wasn't work-related. What also went against me was that OU studies are modular, so you can do it in stages & pay monthly. His argument was that because it's modular, I can pick & choose when to start a module, it so I shouldn't start one until I had the money to pay for it, & I had to find the money from my surplus. :(

He did however allow my internet use for my ECDL, as that is work-related & employers expect anyone doing the course to cover the internet costs themselves as they cover your course fees. I therefore reduced my internet package once he'd agreed it, & put the difference between what I used to pay & what I pay now towards my OU course. :)

I know of someone who'd already started their module & was paying for their OU course monthly - they were also told they had to find the money from their surplus. I think she'd only made a couple of payments as she hadn't been doing the course long, & she spoke to the OU who agreed to let her re-start the module for no extra cost 6 months later - they put the money she'd already paid towards the re-start, & the postponement gave her time to save up the balance. They can do that, but it's a case by case arrangement rather than an automatic right, so you'd need to speak to them & see if they'll allow you to do the same. It's also possible to get some study at a reduced rate or even free of charge if you're on certain benefits or on a lower income. Have a look at this page. :)
  • Thanks WDIAG, I haven't got any income, my hubby pays for my OU course, so I don't think that paying for it from surplus will be an issue as I don't have any, just so long as the OU are happy for me to keep paying it monthy - I have not missed any payments so I don't see why they wouldn't :-) I can;t get any of my course fees paid unfortunately, I already went to Uni - that is where all my debts come from!
