  • Wow that's a big one! Thanks.

It prompts me to say I paid off £656.90 last night to make it £29,100 owed. Feeling a bit cheesed off as I thought the OH was going to get a bonus in December but he got it wrong and he won't get paid it until March. Never mind it's on its way and I guess that's the main thing.

  • This is a public telling off for me. I have spent LOADS of money recently. Why? Well I spend far too long on MSE and find bargains that I just can't miss out on :o . Some of it is genuinely MS but some isn't. I got loads of pressies for DD2s birthday in March from both the Next and Boots sales, although I did buy more than I would have but things were between 50 and 75% off. I got half-price Start-rite school shoes from Barratts for DD1, as well as new boots for me (the old ones had holes in) and work shoes for the OH.

On the not so MS front I bought a new vacuum cleaner when I should have just bought a new hose for the old one. I'm not sure why I did that  . I also bought myself a new watch which was a bargain and I don't have one but really I should have continued to manage without one :o .

So the sales are more or less over and I'm now rememberring to ask myself if I'll still want/think about the item in question a week from now. It is the one thing that stops me spending because most of the time I know I'll have forgotten about it.

As the CC bill is going to be massive I don't think I'll be paying much extra this month. Never mind hopefully another 3 months or so and we'll be MF .

Shirlgirl it strikes me that you have mainly spent on items you would require for you and the family? In doing so in the sales you are saving over the longer term perhaps compressing the purchases into one month (our case with Next anyway, but that's on account from 21 Dec, so when I get the bill, it will go on the credit card, then it'll fall due for payment on 12 March.)
I got half-price Start-rite school shoes from Barratts for DD1, as well as new boots for me (the old ones had holes in) and work shoes for the OH.
All justified and you can't "plan" purchase of shoes for kids (well not our DD she seems to grow "out of sale season" and is now in shoes which carry VAT!) so getting those for DD1 reduced is good.

How does this and clothing fit with your annual budgeting for such items; I bet overall it'll come out on target?
On the not so MS front I bought a new vacuum cleaner when I should have just bought a new hose for the old one. I'm not sure why I did that  .
This is probably your extravagant item and rightly noted, but hopefully you'll get 8yrs life from it?
I also bought myself a new watch which was a bargain and I don't have one but really I should have continued to manage without one :o .
I disagree, you need to be able to show the children that time keeping is important and you can't do that if you don't yourself have a timepiece to hand....
Never mind hopefully another 3 months or so and we'll be MF .
What better note to end on than that?
  • Thanks for the support everyone. I'm really in need of it at the moment. Today I just filled the car with petrol £40 which should last 2 weeks.Unfortunately I also took one of our dogs to the vets and they think she has liver problems. She's going in for blood tests tomorrow and also needs dental work (what I originally took her to the vets for) so I feel a massive bill coming on.

Additionally the OH tells me we need to get someone to look at one of our walls which has signs of rising damp! Why do we want to own our home?

    Perhaps we're all crazy?

I hope your dog is ok and the wall turns out to be ok.
