Lenders should not be allowed to take into account how many searches you have had, this is unfair anyway how are people supposed to shop around for the best deal or even to see if they will get accepted
The problem is there's very few other ways to tell if someone's in very acute dire financial straits (i..e. less than a couple of weeks) or if someone is just desperate for cash. Lots of searches in a short time certainly indicates that (remember, you may only want a credit card to get a better credit rating, but they don't know that and assume you want money - lots of searches, you're trying to either a) get a lot of cash which you can't pay off or b) some cash from just about anyone because you're really desperate).
Lenders should however be made to put up accurate details about what their criteria are. I've been repeatedly declined for the John Lewis Partnership Card despite meeting all their stated criteria!0 -

The trouble with that is it would invite a huge number of fraudulent applications if people knew what the exact qualification criteria were!Best Regards,

Well, they already publish inexact, inaccurate criteria, which people will then lie in order to get through... it's the same as if they were publishing the right figures.0 -
Well I applied around 10 days ago and was told I would get a written decision. Today I received a statement from vanquis with a card number on saying balance zero and credit limit £250 - does this mean I got the card? I havent received anything else yet although I have had two private missed calls on my landline and a london number so it could be them.0

It's strange how you've received your statement before your card and PIN! `i would give them a call as your card and PIN may have been intercepted in the mail. The private number missed calls may have been them but I don't think the London number is them as they are not based there.0

Ring them and ask, Wolfsbayne? Your card may have been lost in the post.Kavanne

Pop the number in there should give you a geographical alternative.
Or even a freephone: 0800 7839003, geographical is 01634 793604 if you have free mobile minutes.Kavanne
