NTL to up the standard
If you are with NTL you are in for a bit of good news. If you are not, then soon might be the time to consider switching as they have announced some changes to their prices that will be put into action next year.
I think a lot (the majority) of people are on the 750 package, like me, which is £25/month. These people can choose to get a better connection for less(1Mb, £18/month) or pay the same and get a really souped up connection (2Mb).
Here are the details:

I think that a lot of other BB providers will have to follow suit or lose out on a lot of business!

Nice one- I look forward to the increase.
Now if I can just find some sites to download stuff from......and then the window licker said to me...0 -
Not so long ago NTL have taken over Virgin.Net - who knows, they might even extend their 'generosity' to Virgin.net users!
I'm not holding my breath though! ;D"...And I gave that man directions, even though I didn't know the way, 'cause that's the kind of guy I am this week." -- Homer Simpson0 -

NTL's offer is not as generous as it first appears.
Old speed New speed Month cost Transfer allowance/month
300k 1Mbit £17.99 5GB
750k 2Mbit £24.99 30GB
1.5Mbit 3Mbit £37.99 40GB
Perviously all their old tariffs had a 1GB transfer allowance a day (which they didn't really enforce)
These new limits will be enforced

That's ridiculous, how can you use up 40Gb mothly limit if you are only allowed to download 1gb a day? By my books, you can get a maximum of 31Gb in a month!0
-
At the moment, regardless of the tariff you are on.. you can download 1gb/day and its not really enforced so if you go over it doesn't really matter.
The new tariffs will have the 5GB/30GB/40GB monthly traffic limits depending on the speed of your service.
While thats an increase in traffic allowed for the new 3MB customers, its a huge reduction for people on the lowest package (who are the majority)
Of course, existing customers can choose not to move to the new speeds/limits if they don't want too

Dont want to blow the caddles off the cake but existing customers will have to pay a "£25-00 Admin fee" which while most may pay because its a good deal or pherhaps a call into the NTL: rentention dept might be in order to get the fee waiveredTell it as it should be....0

Hopefully the upload speed will increase also..! Fingers crossed...! Would happily sacrifice download speed anyday for more than the current 256k upload which really does need a boost!
Currently paying £18.99 monthly for the 1.5mb service for the next year (its a customer loyalty thing!) which should be £34.99 monthly. Hopefully NTL wont try and scam others in the same gravy boat out of the 3mb upgrade as I would be mighty peeved if they did attempt to do so and likely to go elsewhere if so.
Questions....
- Can anyone point me in the direction of some official NTL info on the upgrade news or is it just on the register so far!?
- Does anyone out there make use of the NTL console gaming services (extra IP address + kit) that they seem to offer for XBOX/PS2?? I find it is an odd package to offer - just buy a router!!
- Curious if anyone knows which service provider out there offers the broadband highest upload speed !??
Oh and -- yikes! to the £25 admin fee for what exactly I would love to know, they are likely to flick a switch or two and run a few scripts to actually action the upgrades....why this costs £25 is excessive IMHO!!?
Thanks - Lopo!Beware Lego Men with Deep pockets...! :cool:0 - Can anyone point me in the direction of some official NTL info on the upgrade news or is it just on the register so far!?

I don't think the upload speed is changing.- Can anyone point me in the direction of some official NTL info on the upgrade news or is it just on the register so far!?
Its hidden away in http://www.ntl.com/mediacentre/press/display.asp?id=750[*]Curious if anyone knows which service provider out there offers the broadband highest upload speed !??
Bulldog offers 400K in Central London and various other companies offer SDSL in parts of the country which can go up to 2MB upstream (but it costs!)

This is bad!
Did you say that you can refuse the change and keep the 750 package ( which i have ) and not have any limits enforced?0 -
Yes, the change only applies to new customers.
Old customers would have to "upgrade" to the new packages (and pay a £25 "admin" fee) if they wanted to change.
Theoritically, you are capped at the moment but NTL don't really enforce it
