You measure outside, then check the inside measurement aint to diffferent, and provided u measure from the lintel to under the cillboard, you get a good indication of any differencem and whether to make the frame thicker

AAAAAAAAAAAARGH. No it is not!!! To bed double glazed units into a wooden frame, you should use butyl putty. Getting units out of a wooden frame that have been 'stuck' in with silicon is a horrible job and really difficult. Butyl is made specifically for bedding in DG units.

I've come accross silicon being used many times (and I really hate it). No glazier worth his salt would even consider doing this.

Well newly glazed windows I came across today were bedded on silicone, and the beads were put in with silicone!! Only posting what the glaziers do..

FENSAs concern is with part L of the building regs. This is all about U values and heat loss. They are a self assessment scheme that glazing companies can join so they can issue the relevant paperwork to say that new windows comply with part L of the regs.

They are not a government body that issues regulations on how specific glazing is done.

The pencil line of silicone stops the water from going behind the beading. If it is done correctly, you can hardly notice it.

Any glazier that beds units in with silicone is doing it for a quick job. It's not the proper method, and I would regard a glazier that does this as a cowboy.
